k basically the table size for 40g games / apoc is taken in consideration on the players
need to lean / reach over to move the miniatures around.
in the past , the direct way is to shrink the minis so similar effect of creating
play space is achieved --> Epic .
stacking play space --> necromunda?
Can anyone think of any other additional ways to maxmize our play space with 28mm minis
so we get more play space, without the board been so large we cant reach the minis
without tipping over?

You could do a 'harbor city' layout by putting two or three smaller tables in a 'U' shape, declaring the center of the 'U' impassable but 'open'. That would give you a little nook to get access to the table. It would also make the ImpGuard player with five Basilisks happy.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy. |

I mainly play 1/72 historical, but because of more realistic ranges etc we gound ourslves wanting large tables to. And so we eneded up playing in a guys garage with four, 4x4 foot tables spaced apart so you can walk between them. It is all one battle field, units move from one table edge to another if applicable, ranges are done in much the same way. Makes long range weapons suddenly alot more fun, but also creates the need for fairly mobile armies.
Either way i think a simular thing could be done with 28mm games

About little 'RAF' style shovey sticks?
Or have 'ceiling tile' arrangement where you can 'pop thru' a square if it has no troops on it?

Just suspend yourself in a harness, Mission Impossible style, and then you would be above the board and able to play on huge surfaces with the help of a remote controlled crane.

I've always wondered what it would be like to have your ceiling be the table. You put a thin layer of metal on the ceiling (it has to be fairly low). You then magnetize all the miniatures and the terrain.
You then make the floor a mirror so you can look either up or down to figure out where you are moving.

make a square with four 4x6 tables...you end up with a 2x2 hole in the middle. maybe build up the edges of the tables so it looks like it's a big lake, or a big LOS-blocking mountain in the middle. When you need to move a mini you cant reach have the one member of the gaming group who's less than 2x2 crawl under the table and stand in the middle.

That is an interesting idea. It's like having a mirror over your bed. Keeps people from sneaking out from under it while you're watching.
I've been a proponent of things that require fewer ladders. Like "using basic measuring tools and geometry". You separate the tables and when you shoot between them you just measure to an edge and then continue the measurement on the next table.

not really sure. some options:
1. call it impassable terrain and measure as-is.
2. do the math and never finish a game again.
3. if you are measuring across the gap, just look at the numbers on the tape measure and take them out of the equation.
4. I'm sure someone else can think of a better way to handle it.

Why make the tables more accessible?
Why not just increase your reach?
For Real-World military battle maps, they use long sticks to move the icons around. For 40K minis, that need to be picked up rather than slid, you could use the long grabby tools that janitors use. They only cost a few bucks at Home Depot.

It may be more practical to mount it on the wall, more accessible. It would also be excellent to convert Warhammer 40,000 to 15mm scale.

1)Two consecutive battles??? Simple but effective!
2)A large city wall type terrain piece. Counts as impenetrable/unshootthroughable except for the 'gate/s'.
Flyers can move over it?
3)Teleporters? With as many tables as you like in different rooms!!!!!!!
4) Two or more 'imaginarily linked' tables
1-Two floors of a hive world
2-Surface level entrance to underground bunker/inside bunker
3-Large Space ship/planet surface
Use lifts/teleporters big enough for tanks/large squads.
5) As suggested in original post.
Stacked playing space. Think necromunda but bigger. Use 4ft square 2 or three foot high risers for huge multi level games.
Just don't forget the stepladders!

When we have gaps on our tables we work as though they are none existent, if you have to measure from one table to the other just minus the gap. Units that move to the edge just get moved to the next table, easy really.

I think we should expand this idea. The ONLY way to play warhammer is with twenty assistants, in full 30s RAF uniform, pushing around your models for you. The two commanders stand on a gallery at the side and point at big maps with sticks. This is the only real way to play a wargame...
