From everyone's experience, what seems to be the most common space marine armies you see being played? As the new codex seems to be settling in, what kinds of custom chapters are being played most often? I've heard that salamanders are the new ultramarines. From my experience, it seems everyone either plays Ultramarines, Black Templars or Dark Angels. I know one guy with a custom chapter, but never plays them.
I'm curious to hear others experiences.

Mine taste like Mint and lead.

Also, a hint of failure...

from being on other forums, i do see alot of army lists that are smurf lists... but i also see quite a decent number of imperial fists, crimson fists and even some iron hands in there too...

and up until 5th ed. i rarely if ever saw an army list for a "salamander" army. but i had already started my army as a crusade force, and im gonna keep on rolling with it.

long story short.... i play salamanders and Raven Guard.

A lot of people I know play Dark Angels. That seems to be the most popular chapter.

I would give you a high five but my power fist is stuck in the on position.

My space marines are either Black Dragons (they taste like liquorice) or Soul Drinkers (which taste a bit like lilac and marshmallow.

I'll admit they aren't the most popular armies, but to me they are my 2 favorites..

Up until the new codex it was Dark Angels. Now I'm seeing more Salamanders, including mine.

What is the biggest reason we are seeing more Salamanders, is it Vulkan's specials for master crafted TH's and flamers/meltas?

The Marine players around here a a real mixed bag. We have a couple vanilla players, a Dark Angel, an Imperial Fister, and a hardcore Space Wolf. I suppose I play my Grey Knights on rare occasion too. They are Marines after all...

I've seen a few Space Wolves and Black Templar armies kickin' around. I'm guilty of Space Wolves myself, along with Deathwing and my own custom Chapter. My friend actually painted hit marines as Salamanders when he first got into it circa 1997.

Black Templars were rarely seen before 3rd edition but they were designed in the fluff in the first RT book. Ultramarines were and still are very common, but I used to see Blood Angels around a lot more than I do now.

I play Pre-Heresy Dark Angels using vanilla rules. While I don't get all that many games in, I see a lot of DIY armies. One person I used to play against used Ultramarines, but then switched over to Grey Knights. That's actually one of the only times I've ever played against smurfs. There are also a few Templar players too.
