Im new to 40k, have been playing for only 2 months. I have been putting together a little force. This is what I got so far:

Chapter Master (for orbital bombardment)
-Relic Blade
-Artificer Armour
-combi-plasma

Chaplain
-Jump pack

Troops:

2 Tactical Marine squads (2 Rhinos)
-Missile Launchers & Flamers

Scout Squad (5 models), used to teleport terminators
-heavy bolter and shotguns
-Teleport homer

Elites:

Terminators (5 models)
Dreadnought
-Multi-Melta

Fast Attack

Assault Marines(5 models) (used with chaplain)
-Seargent with powerfist and storm shield

Total: 1250

Scouts (5 models) with sniper rifles
Lascannon Predator

That leaves enough points for either a Land Raider or 2 Vindicators (Of course im open to any other ideas). Anyone have suggestion for my list

devastators are always good, and then just add a predator

2500 pts | 1500 pts | 1000 pts | 1000 pts

How about a squad of devastators, 2 lascannons and 2 plasma cannon with a razorback? 250 doesn't seem to buy a reasonable devastator squad and a predator. Thx for the suggestion though .

I have a similar list but i dont bother with the chapter master Orbital strikes never seem accurate enough. I run 2 squads of scouts and one Tac as my troops in my 1500 point list

Termies need and assult cannon Though (or cyclone for anti-tank)
And add some sniper scouts (snipers have saved my bottom more than a few times).
I also run a TL assult cannon razorback.

i wouldnt put lascannons in a dev squad there way over priced. i would go with the 2 vindicators.

Taking out the Orbital Bombardment and combi-plasma would free up enough points for a cyclone launcher.

I like the idea of a Lascannon Predator and a sniper squad.

Changes to the list:

HQ Chapter Captain
-Relic Blade
-Artificer Armour

Sniper Squad with camo cloaks

And a Lascannon Predator.

Thx for the advice and let me know what you think.

I would go with 2 Vindicators, but as I've said elsewhere, I run 3 of them Strength 10, AP2, large blast... there is no other weapon in the game that good IMO.

I would think about more troops before Heavy Support. I like to have at least 4 Troops slots occupied at 1500+ points. (Note I say SLOTS and not units. With that min. size scout squad, another 10 man tac squad would net you up to 7 scoring units if you combat squad them.) Everything else in your list is very nice, but it's your troops selections that will win you games.

Another tactical squad would be beneficial, as they are usually the ones keeping me alive. But that would cost me another 205 points (including rhino), leaving me still with a lack of fire power (unless anyone has an idea for the rest of my list). I'm also wondering why there is no support for the Land Raider Is it just a waste of points?

In general one LR is a good way to lose 250 in the first couple of turns. Common wisdom is to take 2 at minimum to force your opponent to either split his fire between them, or concentrate on one while the other does whatever it is you want it to do.

Personally I've always felt the same about Terminators: 2 Squads or none. YMMV.

Hmm, it seems the scouts and predator are still the best choice. It would still give me another scoring unit like Lordhat suggested. Plus the extra lascannons .

I think the days of static shooty armies is over. While I loved my Devs I wouldn't use them anymore. The problem with predators is that they do not have any defensive weapons to speak of. I would use points for HS elsewhere in the army.
