I know MEQ means space marines and their equivalents because Dakka is nice enough to remind me every time I scroll over the letters, but what the hell does it stand for?

Build a fire for a man and he will be warm for a day; set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain.

Sly Marbo doesn't go to ground, the ground comes to him.

Yeah, I got that part. I mean the actual letters...is it an acronym? An abbreviation? Where does it come from?

Thanks though.

Err, actually that's not it, at least not as I have heard it; my understanding is MEQs are more about S4 T4 models, usually with 3+ armor, and is used in contrast to GEQ, which is S3 T3, usually with 4/5+ saves. So,

SM, CSM, Necrons = MEQ

Eldar, Imperial Guard = GEQ

Sisters... kinda neither, since they have GEQ stats and MEQ saves.

But that's just how I heard it, I'll try and dig up where that came from...

It should be properly written as MEq. But most people too lazy to type whole words are also too lazy to do the abreviations right.

And too lazy to spell "abbreviations" right either.

That would make a bit more sense.

Purely out of curiosity, on what basis is MEq more correct then MEQ? Did Dakka adopt the Chicago Manual of Style while I was drinking...err, I mean, sleeping?

It always used to be typed MEq because capital letters are reserved for the initial letters of words in an acronym (USA, NATO etc.) but subsequent letters may need to be included for clarity (PzKpfw.)

Hence Marine Equivalent becomes MEq.

People used to type out acronyms properly with the full stops -- U.S.A -- and got tired of doing that since it slows down what is supposed to be a speeded up process.

If this is serious then it stands for United States of America and I would love to know the address of the hole in the ground that you live in. (I think I might move in.)

If its not then lol thanks for making me procrastinate on my ISP more...

I was thinking of a more exact address, like somewhere in south wales where the internet is a new discovery, and indoor plumbing consists of a tunnel leading to the outhouse.
