If 'new verdigris' I'd wash, if 'old' I'd drybrush, if 'really old' I'd overpaint.

Strictly speaking, verdigris builds up in areas where the copper isn't being touched, so painting the item verdigris first, then DBing copper over the top would be best.

Personally I like to paint my metals, then wash in any wear, I think it looks better, if less-realistic.

For verdigris I'd recommend the Vallejo colour of the same name, watered down and mooshed in all your nooks and crannies.

Mooshed is too a word.

I'll try a mix of the suggestions.

On another site I found a formula for verdigris that matches paints I already
have: VGC Jade Green and VGC Electric Blue. We'll see how awful this turns
out!

Hrm. I'm trying to remember who it was, but there was someone here doing a WHFB undead army with some really incredible looking verdigris...they were on his Wight Guard maybe? Some type of skeleton-esque models. Snow bases, nice blue-ish verdigris...have you done a search in the Modeling or P&M Blog forums for "verdigris"?

There was a really descent article in a recent White Dwarf.
The issue with painting a Chaos Champion on a steed.
I've tried it out on a couple of things, and it works out pretty well.

Ya I was going to say do a wash as well. Try googling some images of real metal for it though as most people end up making it too green.when on close inspection it leans more towards an aqua blue color.

Argh! What's up with Dakka's search engine? I can't find the verdigris thread I was looking for...granted my search for that was pretty non-exact. On the other hand, though, I did a search for something I KNOW should be there and it just isn't...

I've done a wash with the new GW green wash and then drybrush it back up and it looks pretty good. For me, for how fast it was it can't be beat.

Probably just spelling issues (not necessarily your fault). It's one reason I hate Search in general.

Agreed, wash is the way to go. After walking around staring at corroded bronze for two weeks (much to my wife's frustration), I can confirm that the verdigris builds up in the areas where water runs (like a wash), and the raised areas stay dark.

Here's how I've done verdigris bronze:
1. Mix bronze paint 50/50 with an identical brown to cut down the metallic sheen.
2. Basecoat with your modified bronze and wash with brown ink.
(Instead of 1&2, you could use straight bronze paint and wash with GW washes, because the wash will matte-down the metallic paint just as well)
3. Wash with water-consistency Goblin Green.

I have some of Vallejo's verdigris glaze, which gives an effective look, but is white rather than green so is not quite so well suited. Looks good for dusty, old metal, but does not really accomplish the green verdigris look that is desired on copper paint.
