I saw the movie a few months ago after it was released in russia. In many places it was released direct to DVD (brasil, germany) so you can buy it online if you look a bit.

I liked the flick. It wasn't very mutant chronicles, but it was a decent movie if you ignore that it was supposed to be set rather loosely on the universe.

Its a fun movie to watch. Certainly better than 99% of the other direct to DVD titles you see nowadays.

I am still floored at how they convinced John Malkovich to play in the movie. He must have really needed the money. His part was kinda cool though. It added a bit of much needed gravitas to the flick.

He could of done the movie because he liked the idea behind it?

The movie is decent. Better than the dungeons and dragons movie but that's not saying much. For me I would say I like it about as much as the first Resident evil movie. has some good parts and some parts that just don't seem to make sense, but the action is good and the effects are good too. The opening scene is exactly what I'd envision battle with an imperial guard army to be like. It's worth watching the movie just for that part alone

Looks amusing enough and who can turn down Imperial Guard fighting against Mutants? Plus Thomas Jane is in it and I think he is a rather alright actor

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

It was horrible. Badly acted, plotted and envisioned, with mediocre visuals. Apparently being John Malkovich is not as lucrative as it used to, if the man is forced to resort to roles in films of this caliber.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Hah, Ron Perlman was also in that Dungeon Siege movie, his presence combined with that of Jason Statham did not do a lot of good.

OK so I just acquired a copy of Mutant Chronicles..... First allow me to preface this rant with a bit of history. When I was a young man I played the pen and paper RPG of Mutant Chronicles from the time it came out until I moved out of my RPG phase.... approx 5-6 years..... I have also ready every novel that was published around the game. So suffice to say I am more than a little familiar with the subject (though its been years since I actually played).

The movies version of Mutant Chronicles compared to the book is much akin to comparing Heinlein's master piece of literature that was Starship Troopers to the trashy 90210 in space with guns that the movie toting the same name was. With the exception that the names are the same little else seems familiar. The history is incorrect in every way, the characters never all worked together, the Corporations have a few issues with their apparent background in the movie (ie: the demographic of the Imperial Corp from the books is much the Demographic that Capitol has taken in the movie). My largest pet peve of all however is the ridiculous steam punk theme. Dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with steam punk..... There is however something very wrong with taking a story that had nothing even remotely steam punkish about it and making everything in the movie revolve around it.

At this time I am 43:42 into the movie..... Ill write more later when Ive finished it.... I had to get this off my chest however.

You can't ever expect a movie to be true to the source. The closest a movie ever came was lord of the rings. Everything else is dumbed down by hollywood and ruined. Think of it more as a low budget sci fi flick and you'll like it more

And this is why you should never watch a movie regarding your beloved background with high expectations.

You will always be disappointed. Without fail.

Also, taking hobbies that seriously is setting one self up for failure.

I too loved the old Mutant chronicles/warzone background.
I didn't expect the movie to be held up to such high standards (the budget for the movie was $1 million. Basically peanuts.) and I came away not disappointed in the slightest because my expectations weren't as stellar as yours was.
Once you accept it for what it is, a movie that is very loosely based on the MC background with a very low budget and some questionable acting but some fun scenes, you might actually enjoy it.
But I am sure you will come back to the thread after you finish the movie and be Negatron from Negoplis finding faults in every nook and cranny of the film.

The only real fault I can find with this movie is calling itself mutant chronicles. It should have had some other name.

Sounds a bit like the pot calling the kettle black to me when it comes from an individual with over 10k posts in this single forum alone. Perhaps you should enjoy my commentary for what it is and not take it so seriously...... its a sure way to set yourself up for failure.

My negative analysis was based simply around the movie departing drastically from cannon. I made no mention of visual effects, acting, casting, screen writing, ect ect ect... This is because such aspects are not expected to be outstanding. However if you would liek to continue to cast disparaging comments with such a negative tone my way then please pot, keep calling this poor kettle black.

I actually fail to see what my posting habits over a decade have to do with anything, but ok. I do take your commentary for what it is. Sourgrapes that the background wasn't treated as reverently as you would have liked. If I am incorrect, then perhaps you might want to reconsider rewording your thoughts then?

My intention was to point out that it seemed to be a bit hypocritical for someone who clearly takes his war gaming seriously (10K+ posts illustrated that nicely) to say that I am somehow out of line by being critical of a movie that in many ways betrayed the games whose name sake at also stole.

Forgot to add this: Please let it also be recognized that I listed off the differences between the game/novels and the movie because numerous indivduals who had laready posted seemed to be blissfully unaware of the original story line and the corresponding differences between that and the movie. It is only doing the original story justice to point out the differences so that both game and movie can be appreciated for their own very different merits.

As for the movie being, "Good"? No.
Its a movie based on a game, don't expect much. The one that compared it to the Starship trooper flick was about on par.

It is a great movie to paint mini's to, and it is one of those little filler movies like the SciFi channel, direct to dvd movies.

As for expectations, if you take it bad that it wasn't "Oscer" material, or some sort of award winner, then thats all on you. To write a commentary on film of culture on something this inane is being a bit over the top.

It wasn't worth picking apart or doing the Siskle and Ebert thing on. It had alot of shotgun blast stars in it, the SGT from Dog Soldiers, John Pertweet, I think his name is, It had the guy from Enemies at the gate who played the Commissar, it had Devon Akoi, (hottie with sword from sin city), It had Ron "Hellboy" Pearlman, etc. But for all of the talent, the Mutant Chronicles wern't there. It was a basic stand up fight the mutants because they are going to eat the earth stuff that you would expect.

Two Beers up for the English Sci Fi flicks.

For those of us in the know, the movie is already out, was worth one good watch, and then we went on to flicks like Doomsday, Letters from Iwa Jima, The Rob Zombie "Holloween", etc.

If you want entertainment, it is ok, if you want Masterpiece Theater, go watch a good porno.

Arguing about , or playing tit for tat internet smart guy( heh, heh ) is pointless on this movie.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Well, the biggest difference here is one person: Uwe Bol.

Since Uwe Boll was not part of the Mutant Chronicles movie (as far as I can tell), MC at least stands a chance at being a decent B-flick.

Pretty much anything Boll touches (i.e. Dungeon Siege, Bloodrayne, Postal, etc) is guaranteed to be crap, but for some reason, people keep giving him money to make movies. He's like the German version of Paul W.S. Anderson.

I haven't seen MC yet, but since Warzone is still one of my all-time favorite minis games (even my 12-year-old nick is short for "Mortificator", from that very game), I still want to see it. BUT, I have no illusions: I am going to see it with a tub of popcorn and some sodee-pop, and hopefully enjoy it for what it is.

Lots of friends I know freaked out over the LotR movies, because they were not word-for-word from the book. People having such expectations, in my opinion, are setting themselves up for disappointment on a pretty permanent basis. Books generally don't make good conversions from the printed page to the silver screen word-for-word, page-for-page.

Sit back, relax, go into the movie with an open mind. Realize that most of the people associated with most of the book-to-movie flicks have never played the game, or read the book that their scripts are based off. Enjoy the movie for what it is - a completely separate entity that pays homage (in some form or fashion, and to some degree) to the original property that you cherish.

Just my opinion, tho. There's no 'wrong' way to watch a movie.

It's to do with a loophole in German tax law (may now be closed) but basically it was a better deal for Boll to make bad movies for tax purposes
