Okay, I don't ever plan on playing CSM, but Typhus is one of my favourite models(my other two favourites being GK termies, and the FW Avatar), so I bought him today. Anyway, here's my progress.

C&C about what I have so far? I know he's not green, but I've already got around 30 orks done, and about 70~80 more to go, so quite frankly, I'm kind of sick of green.

Also, I have a question about basing... You see, my dog has these freezer-dried beef liver treats, and they look like they would make PERFECT cliffs or rocks, so I'm considering using them as basing materials. Thing is, I don't know how they'd react to primer and paint, or how long they'd last. Think they'd be fine as basing materials?

I'm thinking I may have to redo his head. I ended up painting that part before I was thinking about using gold, and so it really doesn't fit with the overall look of the model.

Looks very nice, man.

I don't like green plague marines, personally. I've always been partial to a more rusted look on my Death Guard. So good for you.

The only big problem I really see is the area around the eyes. It looks really strange; not as good as the rest of the model.

I wouldn't try using food for basing, no matter if it's freeze dried or not. Freeze dried food might even dissolve a bit with aerosol spray, not exactly sure. Perhaps make a simple GS mold so you can create as many as you need?

Yeah, the head ended up falling into some paint thinner, and so the paint got really rough. I tried painting over it, but... yeah...

I think I'll just dump the entire head in paint thinner over night. Being metal, it shouldn't dissolve.

As for the freeze dried dog treats, perhaps I should prime some tomorrow, when I reprime the head, and see what happens...

As for a GS base, you havn't seen this liver. I mean, seriously, it looks real, and perfectly scaled.

Take a look at what I mean. Not the best example, but you get the idea:

lol I'd avoid using dog food as basing unless you want to wake up the next morning digging Typhus out of Fido's poo.

So, no dogfood base. Oh well. Still want to see what happens when it gets primed though. Should look cool.

when in doubt, coat it in glue.

not only does it protect the dog food, people wont look at you funny when it smells. "why does the mini smell like dried squid...
did you #$@*% and touch the mini without washing your hand? " etc etc

Typhus : the color is great, dont worry about it not been green , trust your senses imo.

What kind of glue? White glue?

Anyway, now that the head is stripped(after being torn from its shoulders. Of course, being Nurgal's bitch and all, he probably doesn't even notice when a body part's missing, even if that bodypart's his entire body.), it's ready to be repainted tomorrow. Not sure how I should paint it though. Should I just try to get the face plate white again, but cleaner? Or should I do something different?

Should I water it down and then coat it, or just rub it on?

Rubbing it on with used brush is fine ( you can wash it off fast ) it turns clear anyways ( though you paint over it so wouldnt matter xD

actually i dip my whole mini's base into glue sometimes ( it goes up to the feet sometimes , but had to be done
to get through the pebble's crevices and such ) but its ok o_o you cant tell its there lol.

I'll try that before I prime it then.

Honestly though, I'm not too worried about fido eating it, because quite frankly, I've seen her eat CDs. Food or not, she'll eat it if she can get to it, regardless of what it is or what it smells like. If given the chance to eat Typhus, she'd probably end up eating everyone else as well. You see, as nice as Molly is, she's not too bright(unless treats are involved, then she's a freaking genious).

I wasnt worried about the dog eating it ( they could eat lot worse and be ok ) more worried about your mini been
attacked / destroyed on the process.

Well, the minis are displayed on a shelf that's about 5 and a half off the ground, well out of the reach of a pug. The cat could probably jump off of stuff and get up there, but the dog? Not a chance. And the cat's too timid to actually try something like that, and even if she did, she's fairly careful around my models anyway(I've seen her around more fragile models without any problems). Besides, the animals are only normally allowed in my room if I'm in there.

Worst thing my animals did to my 40k stuff was my cat walking around and sniffing them. I even posted a story on another forum (with pictures) involving my Grey Knight GM dueling the mighty clawed daemon.

ugh.... this is what my dog does to me , almost everyday.

Every morning when i go to school, he jumps on me, and yes his 4 paws land on me at the same time ... so agile.
within the time i open door, to my gate, im covered in paw prints.

His "fun" is toying with neighbor's giant shephard , or generally agitate / annoy them to death. He would do flips off the fence till he knows the neigher's shephard is PISSED then he sits there with ears up.

*Indoors , ever see dog climb book case? well... he pretty much charges up the book case using the different lvl shelves. And then he runs around the floor as if hes ice skating or something.

Finally completed, Typhus!

I don't play CSM, and I don't really ever plan on it, but Typhus is one of my favourite models, so I decided to put him together for once. I'm a little tired of green, orks and all, so I decided to use gold instead.

Basic order of painting was shining gold -> wash with glaze brown -> drybrush with skull white -> drybrush with mithril silver -> drybrush the blood on -> wash with black glaze.

The base was made using the standard GW gravel and grass, with some freeze dried beef liver. The liver was covered in glue, primed, and then painted. Hopefully, it'll last.

Very nice! You win a Morley, and I was the first one to vote on them in the gallery! Good work.

Well, being metal, and with his arms made the way they are, there's not much option for the actual posing. As for the stepping up, I wanted to make it look like he was walking over some crumbled... something... to slaughter... someone... Also, I wanted to make him look like he was looking forward, as opposed to his normal emo-gaze.

Also, Gordino... I like the compliment and all.. but what's a Morley? I did a search, but all I can find is the name of a sculpter everyone seems to hate.

I like it overall but I strongly believe it could benefit from some strategic highlights. It would really pull the model together. That and take a detail brush and some bleached bone or equivalent and carefully dot patches of maggots in certain areas.

To nasty it up even more you could wash some 'ard coat onto his guts and nurglings and his other assorted squishy bits. Anything to get a clump in the throat while looking at it.

my 2 cents.

Well then... I'm flattered... I think...

Anyway, Aunshova, I won't be adding any maggots, because the idea is that this is very recently after he gave himself to Nurgle. He's still more man then corpse at this point.

However, in terms of 'strategic highlighting,' which points, and with what colours, should I highlight?

Laying siege to the Temple of Pecans.

Just as a suggestion, but mostly armor edges. Maybe mix in a small part of bleached bone to one of the colors you have already used on the model. I think it's called "hard edging?" It works wonders for darker toned figures and will really make it pop.

As is, it is still an amazing piece!
