YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I voted "It's okay". It's still not worth buying for the past 6-7 years, but I give a browse off the shelf every so often.

Given its current price of $8 I'd have to say it sucks. If it were half that price I'd cut it more slack, but it is the same price as a brand new paperback novel, so in that regard I find the content very lacking.

I'll buy it if there is something interesting to me in it, like this month's Lizards. I play Tyranids in 40K, so the last several issues on Space Marines and Orks I just don't care.

Give us articles on innovative ways our old codices can beat the new ones (especially Bugs Vs. Orks!).

If WD were to go back to a gaming resource format, instead of a marketing blitz format, It'd be worth it. As it stands now, it's only good for lining a bird cage. Personally I think they should do away with it completely.

It costs 80 rand here which is lots, but I agree Rymafyr,I think if there site and WD go back to gamming help and advice instead of a lot of ^%$@# about selling stuff.

I really miss the extra fluff that used to come with WD, either in stories or history. I still love the golden demon stuff and the previews, but I really don't like the "get to know the GW" crap or, how to build and paint the newest $50 model we released last month. I am also often dismayed at the quality of the battle reports. I do like the new format, but for crying out loud, lets get some decent players! I'm tired of reading these and thinking, "what on earth is he trying to accomplish by doing x." Or even worse, they get the rules wrong.....

Any who, I have always been an avid collector and reader of white dwarf, I'm just hoping that this is a nasty phase they are going through and that they will return to their roots.

Whozzat? Jed? 'Zat you Jed?

Haven't bought one in years. Actually, I haven't even looked through one for at least 12 months.

I stopped buying them long before I stopped playing 40k. There simply wasn't anything in it worth the cover price.

I voted "It Sucks" but I still buy it if only for when I have to take a dump and need something to read... Pretty pictures though and good advertisements...oh I mean Battle Reports.

Some thoughts:
A)Has GW ever done a reader survey?
B)I think Battle reports are tedious beyond belief.
C)I've never read any of the following ever! Battle
reports,WFB articles,LotR sections ,never had any
interest in them.
D)I still wouldn't like to see WD disappear though, maybe
a different story if Harbinger magazine was about.
Please remember that historical magazines really hate
the Scifi/fantasy mob,so if there was no WD,there
probably be severe decline in the Scifi/fantasy
wargaming world. How did I come up with that I hear you
ask?See next point
E)How many of you started out with WD/GW and learned
of other games?Don't give me all that guff about the
resources on the internet,if there was no magazine
available on a regular basis the Scifi/fantasy world
would implode.

It was better when it was, as person above said, gaming resource, not advertising. I don't mind battle reports though - and get it just for the pictures.

There's the occassional nugget of hobby goodness. And one must admit, it is kinda fun to re-write the lists in the battle reports.

I like it, even though I agree with the disappointments people list. I'm mostly 40k, but I liked, even loved reading some of the fantasy and Lotr stuff.

But, now that its $8, I don't think I'm going to do it anymore. Thats $96/year - a battleforce. Back when it was $6, or even $7, it was more worth it, but not anymore.

I'll just snipe those issues that have majority of stuff I'm interested it, or I find out have great articles in.

The White Dwarf used to be decent...use to be alright. Than they got rid of any real tactics or thoughts in terms of articles and instead it is just a giant marketing tool. That is all it is....

Plus lets not forget that every army that comes out wins there battle report. Not always(I can vividly recall a Dark Elf one where they lost and a Goblin vs Bretonnia one they had to redo 3 times cause of Fanatics killing everything)but largely yes.

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

It's OK. I buy it if a flick through reveals something I might find interesting, so in the next few months I'll probably pick it up to see the new IG stuff. For the most part though, as I don't play Fantasy or LotR, there's a lot I'm not interested in at all and thus most months WD seems like a big, fat waste of money.

I've never actually gotten an article before, because quite frankly, I'm not going to pay $10 CAD for one issue of a magazine. Cut that price in half, and it's still overpriced.

And judging by the response, I can't really imagine it even justifies the price anyway.

It's ok. You get more content for the same price compared to some other gaming mags like No Quarter.

I havent bought a WD in a long time, because I find they have no re-read value. I liked it when they had chapter approved stuff with interesting new units & scenarios...

Im one of England's great cheapskates & I refuse to pay that much money for a magazine Im only going to read once.

It's freakin 7€...

honestly, I couldn't believe as I looked at the price tag. I'm a student and I have a newspaper in a subscription. I pay around 100 € a year (student price, what's the age of gamers Gw want to reach again?) And that's for a freakin thick paper that comes weekly and has definitely higher paid journalists employed.

Sure it's glossy, pretty paper, but it sucks for it's price. Before the Internet it was decently priced and useful, but nowadays it is not.

I loved White Dwarf, and bought nearly every issue when it was a great hobby magazine.

It has transformed into a monthly catalog. Hell even a catalog might be useful. It's become a paper commercial. I'm not one of the guys screaming in capslock in every WD thread, but I haven't bought an issue in years. It's just plain not worth it, to me.

I was away from the hobby for about 7 years, and up to that point I was buying every issue of white dwarf because it was quality and had interesting articles and battle reports from cover to cover. When I came back and saw white dwarf which was just some glossy peice of advertisment for games workshop with a few token articles and the odd battle report put in. Still okish to read but nothing compared to the old white dwarfs.

Anger.

I pissed away $8 on the issue with Zagstrukk on the cover, and for what? 3-4 color pages with warbuggy conversions. And you know what, most of them don't even have so much as a hint as to how the modeler even made it, like Matt Holland's buggy or the yellow one next to it.

No, it's probably not that hard to figure out on your own, but really? It just seems like the actual hobby aspect is nothing but an afterthought, it's just thrown in at the last minute because they had some spare pages that they couldn't fill with used-car-style advertisements of the new Battlewagon (Seriously, why? I assume it was supposed to be funny, but...it wasn't). And even in the article I mentioned they couldn't resist promoting it. And there was that stupid Apoc battle with the ridiculously large Ork gun and all the cool Orky terrain and vehicles, but what was the point? Admittedly I never read the thing but I just assume there were a lot of battlewagons and that they conveniently saved the day time and again and were so unbelievably worth taking...by the way, in case you're wondering, apparently the Orks won...who saw that one coming? I would've liked some articles for that terrain or even the Ork supergun, but no...

White Dwarf wasn't worth $6, and it will never be worth $8. This is my second ever issue, and my last. The last one I bought had Dark Elves on the cover and the return of Tale of Four Gamers, which was somewhat interesting even if it was obviously just another excuse to talk about how awesome the AoBR box set is and what a great deal it is for budding SMs or Ork playres, but all in all the thing bored me to death, and I didn't even read the HE vs. DE battle report (but I skipped to the end to confirm that yes, indeed, the new army won omg they're so awesome BUY THE GIANT). This one, I still can't even believe I bought it, I've been kicking my ass for it ever since.

Thirded. I'll still pick it up when it actually has new rules in it - otherwise, I'd rather spend the eight bucks on five happy-hour beers and a three dollar tip for the bar wench.

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?
