Assorted Fluff:

During the dark days of the Horus Heresy, a small industrial world, forgotten during mankind's early explorations of the universe, was rediscovered by a unit of Cadian Kaskrin while on a scouting expedition. Known as "Tylansia", the world had been accidentally deleted from early mankind's rosters by a simple clerical error. The people of the world were stuck in the electrical age, with no real way to become space-faring again, until their rediscovery.

The Kaskrin called for the world's most adept warriors to form regiments of Guardsmen in order to fight the forces of Chaos. A total of ten Expeditionary Units were created, each geared towards rapid insertion and mobile firepower. The warriors that comprised these units, culled from the planet's small standing armies, were trained to fight from land, sea, and air, using various support elements and rapid attack forces to catch their enemies off balance. Invoking them motto of their ancient predecessors, a force now only known as the "Colonial Marines", the motto of these collective forces was "First to Fight". Calling themselves "Marines", in honor of their progenitors, the ten Tylansian MEU's served in the Horus Heresy. The First MEU was lost to Chaos, but the rest of the unit remained pure and untainted by Chaos.

For millennia afterwards, the Tylansian MEU's have remained a small, capable force, focusing on close range engagements. Every Marine is trained to use both the standard Lasgun and a more primitive rifle used by the Tylansian armed forces for millennia. Equal in power to the Lasgun and much easier to maintain, the autoguns issued to the Marines share some resemblence to the Lasgun after their last major overhaul. The obvious drawback is the fact that a Marine toting an autogun can carry a limited amount of ammunition and cannot shoot as far as a lasgun can, though the autogun does have the psychological effect of shredding through enemies instead of killing them with neat, crisp laser burns.

The Tylansian MEU's use surplus gear scavenged or bartered from other worlds, most of it Cadian surplus. Their world only can produce so much in terms of military gear, and it is much easier to commandeer older equipment. The MEU's use Cadian issue flak armor, infused with a special active camoflauge technology. The process to transform standard armor into Tylansian armor is a process kept secret by Tylansian armorers. All armor that has been transformed usually remains black. The armor will blend in to the surrounding enviornment when prompted by the wearer- the armor is connected to a neural interface in each Marine's spinal cord, and measures brainwave patterns. All a Marine has to do is think about blending in, and his armor will do so. The process takes about two seconds. Tylansian BDU's follow the same procedure. Each Marine undergoes years of mental conditioning in order to fully utilize this style of armor.

Occasionally, Marines will don what they call "Skull Suits", skinsuits that enhance their performance by optimizing blood flow to major organs. They also seal off wounds and can act as vaccuum suits if necessary. This improves a Marine's performance in hand to hand combat.

The Tylansian Marine Corps is unique in that it allows women to join it's ranks in frontline combat positions. Though units like the Cadian 8th incorporate women, the TSMC (Tylansian Marine Corps) allows dedicated female Marines to take up arms and fight alongside their counterparts.

First Company of the 220nd Battalion has faced many adversaries in the past. They often clash with Necron forces, due to the presence of a Necron tomb world somewhere close to Tylansia (it has remained hidden, despite two hundred years of searches). They often participate in training exercises versus other Guard units, such as the Cadian 8th, and even Space Marine units, such as the Ultramarines. They are respected for their instinctive use of cover and "strike hard and fast" mentality.

(Author's Note: I do not actually have 2 of the 3 Chimeras, and am lacking a Leman Russ, along with the Valkyrie. I'm waiting for the new plastic one. )

Pic Time:

Most of 1st Company:

Yay heavy weapons!:

1st and 2nd Platoons:

3rd Platoon:

My Grenadiers/Stormtroopers. They use Cadian heads, arms, and legs, but Haloclix Spartan chestpieces:

My Chimera, "Puma":

My Leman Russ, "Deus Ex Machima"

And one of my favorite models: Guardsman in foxhole!

Note that most of the above models are at a cumulative 65% completion status. I still have to touch up most of the models and put varnish on them (they looked a lot better until I started actively wargaming in October. They all need touch ups). I still have to invest in several Chimeras & Leman Russes, along with at least one Demolisher and Valkyrie. I'd also preferrably like to make some more Grenadiers and have at least 40 more Cadians. Jeez, that's a lot of money. :(

Comments? Flames?

Thanks alot! I just realized I spelled "Machima" wrong. Never heard of the band- I'm gonna go Youtube them now.

It's about 2,500 points, give or take depending on my doctrines. I've got about 1,500 more to go before my force is perfect (we have 4,000 point Apoc games at my FLGS).

I dunno...

Could you please say why you neglected to fully paint 1/2 of the stormtroopers faces?

Well, they're not fully painted. They're all at about 35% done- I need to apply camo patterns, finish the bases, etc. This was just "slap on three colors and a base for my local apoc tourney".

And whaddya mean the stormies faces are unpainted?

Well theres the sargent looking one up front and his friend is only half painted. Cool face guard effect on the one on the left though. And I love the spartan helmet in the back, that's fantastic.

*facepalms at own stupidity*

I was actually trying for a balaclava look (did I spell that right?), but then I realized a Cadian guy with his mouth open isn't exactly a balaclava guy. XD

He's since been GS'd with a proper one.

Thank you all for your kind words! TBH, the pictures above are of REALLY BAD guardsmen. I painted them sloppily and quickly to get them ready for an Apoc game back in January, and haven't really updated them much until now. I'm starting to update them to what I'd consider a tournament ready look. The color scheme is based on the Colonial Marines from Aliens;

Is there anything I can do to improve these guys, besides a subtle dark wash, completing the face work, and filing off the rouge mold line that I missed?

I think it really needs...something...to fill the huge void in the front of the base. Mortar looks unpainted. Apart from that, should look good after a wash.

Also, rouge mold lines? Have your guardsmen being experimenting with makeup?

Tip for balaclavas: (Courtesy of Migsula)

Get a bit of superglue, to blur the lower half of the face together. Then paint it. 100x better.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

I hope your Leman Russ titled Deus ex Machina arrives from reserve on turn 5 every battle, as some ridiculous plot saving narrative plug ;]

Good work, the Aliens inspired Camo looks great!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

@Dreadnote: I fully intend to put sandbags in a circle around the base. The base hasn't even been considered yet- I wanted to do the minis first.

@Assassin- thanks for the tip. I'll try that.

@Bottle: Well, the MBT usually comes in early, but will occasionally fire that one game-winning shot (for example, he's currently killed the Nightbringer as it was about to eat my Command Squad, and also blown an Ork Warboss to bits before said Warboss charged a squad holding an objective). So yeah, he's definently a ridiculous device from God. Thanks.
