This seems like a stupid question, but do stone throwers need line of sight to shoot? I'm pretty sure they do, but I just wanted to check.

Yup.
As far as I remember, *all* Artillery now requires LoS.
Still doesn't TFG Cannon Sniping though, but then there is no real way to prevent people being arses.

The only War machine that doesn't need line of sight that I can think of is that stupid Warp Lightning Cannon the Skaven have. I hate that thing!!

Except the WLC does have LOS - it sees through all units and terrain that arent stone

The 7th edition cannon rules actually encourage cannon sniping. GW has even stated that if you can kill a character with a cannon, then props to you.

Stone Thrower has 360 degree los. So the only thing that can stop it is interposing terrain (hill, forest, building).
