Subject: Traitor Guard, what rules do you use?
|
 |
Executing Exarch
|
So after taking the plunge and buying a couple Battleforces of guard, I find myself being pulled to the realm of chaos, partly because guard seem to play like a stationary eldar (if you didn't know I play a wide range of eldar armies). But since GW got rid of The Lost and the Damned army list, and the new chaos codex does not have cultists, I am at a loss to find a suitable rules set (I am interested in playing them in a tourney).
So my question is what rules do you use?
Counts as:
vanilla Guard
doctrine guard (as I recall in a WD recently there was some new doctrines for this, if anyone has a PDF of them I would love to see it)
WH with allies
DH with allies
Other?
and while I am at it, What god should I theme my army around? I dislike khorne so that's not an option, I used to run an Emperor's Children army (until it got stolen ) so I think I have narrowed it down to tzeench, or nurgle.
I seem to be leaning towards nurgle since tzeench is a little to much like my eldar, but I am open to suggestions.
Thanks,
Chris

Well you certainly have a lot of potential here. I've always been much more fond of tzeench than nurgle and since you are going to be doing a lot of counts as type suff, I think the god of change might be the one to work for here.
The next thing to do is decide what you really want to field. If you look at guard and the possible allies you could have, there is a lot of room for you to have all kinds of things. So make some decisons about how you want to run the army. Gunline, mech, lots of marines mixed in, or whatever. After that gets worked out, you can get to work on Tzeenching out the units you want to use.

I think you've covered the basic options, and the specific build will depend on whether you want evil Termies & Marines or evil PA humans leading the revolt.

Well, if you run DH with allies, you could use daemonhosts, which are pretty chaotic. Not only that, but a radical inquisitor getting assassins signed up onto his cause could end up causing a lot of trouble for the imperium.

I would love to run a list with some daemons and a couple CSM. (kind of like the old codex) but I am pretty much open to anything. Here's a list of the models I have at the moment:
HQs
4 officers
15 Flamers
1 standard bearer
Troops
40 mooks with lasguns
Fast attack
6 sentinels
heavy
1 LRBT
1 Basilisk
crewed guns
3 lascannons
4 heavy bolters
6 missile launchers
7 auto cannons
Guns no crew
7 mortars
3 lascannons ( I use them on the sentinels some times)
Random bits and pieces.
*edit* Right now they are modelled as a ash waste penal colony, all of the inmates (standard guardsmen) wear various gas masks, the only uniformity is that the Guards (officers, and there retinue) all wear great coats, helmets, and a standard issue gas mask.

I would go with a Radical Daemonhunters force, heavy on inducted Guard. Not sure how to fit the flamers in though :(

It doesn't matter if I have to remodel some things.

How about IG with DH Allies:
HQ (0-1)
DH Inq. Lord (model as Traitor leader)
Elite (0-1)
DH Eversor Assassin (model as a Possessed Traitor Guardsman)
Troops (0-2)
DH GK PA (model as CSM Noise Marines / KSons)
Given that you're all Flamers instead of the "good" Meltas and Plasma, you must be a themed force.

While I think DH w/ IG is probably your best bet, you may want to go IG w/ DH. It would still let you take an Inq w/ pyker powers and 3 deamonhosts, but it would also let you field Ogryns (heavily mutated chaotic deamons).

Flamers as stormtroopers? They can deepstrike, and have decent ranged capability. For special weapons throw in something gribbly on a hand here and there?

Wait. Are the 15 "flamers" troops carrying flamers as special weapons, or are they Flamers of Tzeench?

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

IG with flamers. Yes it is a themed army at the moment, its a penal legion. I figure Flamers the flamers are on all the characters modelled as prison guards, more to keep them in line that to use on enemies
All of the heavy weapons and armour are salvaged (kind of like chem-dogs) also as of now all of them are wearing Gas masks.

Are you playing friendly games or tournaments? If it's friendlies or FLGS, how do the other players feel about using Imperial Armour rules?
Because the Siege of Vraks book has a traitor guard list in it...

Or use the ork list. I'm not kidding here...
The Warboss and the Nobs can be used as Traitor marines, with scraps of armour still on them.
The Infantry could be geneticlly modified humans, made stroner and more brute, but more stupid.
Looted stuff is...wel looted stuff.
Grotz could be 'failed experiments' suicidal and uncared for.
Thats just a couple of ideas I had
