Did a test model today and am really satisfied with the paint scheme.

My photography sucks (I use an old Canon A20 powershot and have trouble taking close-ups of single infantry figs) but I'm doing as best I can...flash doesnt seem to help and these two shots are without flash.

I really like them! I especially like the Federation symbols.

How are you planning to incorporate the other colors? Are you going to have mixes of the reds, blues, and yellows in squads?

Looks good!

I like the Starfleet symbol on the shoulder pad.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Better yet, will each squad consist of 4 named marines with banners and well detailed faces, and one nameless marine?

In the squads I'll have mostly Redshirts as the basic marines. Sergeants will be wearing 'command yellow' and I'm playing with the idea of letting the special weapons and heavy weapons wear 'science blue'....I dunno about that though.

After my test model I'm going to paint my chaplain. He's going to be in blue. This will be my McCoy Clone (all the skulls=bones in my book...he also offers spiritual guidance to Captain Tiberius. ...just like McCoy did for Kirk)

You should paint characters up with blue and gold armor, while regular troops just have red...

But looks nice, as far as I can get a good look from the pics.

The full triumvirate of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy will be represented by a HQ Commander (either Master or Captain) a Chaplain (McCoy), and a Techmarine (Spock).

They'll each have paint schemes derived from the original series (kirk chapter master=green, kirk captain=command yellow, mccoy=blue, spock=blue)

...by the way, originally this was going to be a parody almost with the ridiculous conversions and stuff. I've since decided that I'm making it as serious as possible for a real space marine chapter. I'm working on a full chapter history soon to be posted on Bolter&chainsword and another article here at dakka.

I like the color scheme idea. Especially the green for the Chapter leader. Blue should only be for Chaplains and Medics? Just my thoughts. You could give brown trim to the heavy and special weapons guys from the goofy brown helmets they wore in some of the movies. Maybe tan highlights for the scouts for those tan field belts they sometimes wore in the old show. Just some ideas.

I would think Spock would be better as a Librarian(as Vulcans are contact telepaths) with Mr. Scott as a Techmarine(being the chief engineer).

McCoy should be the apothocary in the command squad.

I've already thought of both of those things, beleive me. I've been going over all of this in my head for some time now.

Obviously the characters arent going to be "kirk, spock, and McCoy" as this isnt a parody.

I will be hinting more at the fact. Captain Tiberius, Chaplain Leonus, Techmarine Savok, something like that...hinting at the names, but not exactly.

Also, McCoy was basically Kirk's "human" concience much like spock was a "logical" voice he could listen to when making decisions.

....its not to far off to imagine McCoy as a "Spiritual Leader"...in the Chaplain. Sure I could go with the Apothacary, but thats obvious. Much like the Librarian Spock is obvious...and the Scotty Techmarine.

Considering that this is going to be a real chapter that I'm making up, I think I'm better off going the route that I'm going here. Hinting at roles but one needs to be "in the know" as it were in order to 'get it'. I think thats smarter...and more interesting.

I could see a really cool idea from Red Dwarf for the theme of a chapter.

The Red Dwarfers (vehermently not red squats)

a chapter with close links to the mechanicum,

unfortunately following a tragic plasma reactor maintainence error all of the chapter was killed except for brother Listerius, who was in a stasis field as punishment.

The machine spirit of the chapter's sole remaining battle barge utilised servitors to salvage the corpse of Corporal Rimario and placed him in a dreadnaught. Unfortunately Corporal Rimario suffers from omni-phobia and is bloody useless. there is a dark rumour that he caused the reactor overload this is why the dwarfer's privately refer to themselves as the Smegheads.

the rest of the current chapter strength consists of a servitor with a comically shaped head and a mutant.

though the chapter uses a mutant feline-human it can get away with this by making the mutant wear power armour with funky flared greaves and a cool botton-down collar

there done the fluff xx

My Chapters Techmarines have made an advance in plasma power cells. They're calling it a 'phased' plasma power source resulting in a weapon that is more compact and easier to wield in CC. (no in-game effect but I take the top half of a plasma pistol and shave it down a bit, making it look almost EXACTLY like a Phaser II pistol.) My 3 hero's will have plasma pistols, this will be the extent of major conversion work....although I'm still thinking about making shuttlecraft drop pods and impulse nacelles on speeders...I dont wanna make a parody though...so I'll be careful with that.

Sounds a little like the Blood Angels paint scheme to me.

Sounds interesting. Will it be TOS only, or can we expect a captain picarus anytime soon?

It's too bad you don't want to make a parody out of it. I would love to see a fat Techmarine with scottish accent

QFT. I'll second this motion.

Third this motion! No Star Trek marine army would be complete without a scotty techmarine, and spock makes a better Librarian (they are both known for blue outfits after all)

Yeah I was also thinking Spock is perfect for a Librarian.
