Ok so this came up in the ES Scatter thread, and well im curious, and was wondering does Mind War need to roll to hit? There are 2 ways you can inturpret this

1) Counts as a Psychic shooting attack and therefor uses the shooting rules - must roll to hit
2) Doesn't need to hit because it picks a modle and they roll a d6+ld it says nothing about needing to hit

I really dont know, honestly I thought it wasn't didn't count as a psychic shooting attack becuase it didn't have a profile (range, str, etc) However I cant seem to come to a conclusion myself.

Does not need to roll a "to hit".

It does still have a range and requires LOS tho.

You do need to take a pyschic test.

This is where GW shot them selve in the foot 'Mind War' Is not a pyschic shooting attack, It happend in the shooting phase instead of firing a weapon. So 'Mind War' wouldn't need to test to hit and would only be used once turn (as you can only fire one weapon).

Same aplies fore 'Zogwort's Curse' but not 'Mind Worm' (DA) as it counts as a heavy weapon so it would need to hit. Only if it is a got a weapons profile do you need to roll to hit as you do with all weapons. Scrap that see bellow

That makes since, now can you get a cover save against mind war? If so do you just have to be in cover (area terrain for the sake of the example) or do you have to go to ground?

From the Codex Eldar FAQ:

Q. Which Eldar Psychic powers are psychic shooting attacks?

A. Destructor, Eldritch Storm and Mind War (though they include a few exceptions to the normal shooting rules, as specified in their description).

cover/inv. saves:- yes only armour save may NOT be taken

Going to ground:- yes before rolling any save you may go to ground. So even in the open you may go to ground for a 6+ cover save. But you're whole unit is now pinned, personally i would rather have a go at the Farseer that's less than18" away.

(Edit)@Ghaz ... which is why i said they shot them selves in the foot. It is easy to see it was meant to stop double mind wars since it was add tail end of the 4th ed. By calling it a psychic shooting attack in the FAQ it doesn't change the rule you still pick a model in18" and LOS. Then have a LD+D6 fight and the enemy suffers the difference if he loose.

Ok even simpler reason why you do not roll to hit ... no shots are fired

... so i guess 'Mind Worm' doesn't need to hit ether.
