been trying to work out a decent ork army, that is competative and works well
tried the whole loota spam, as much fun as it is, people tend to keep away from them, or i get lashed out the way, or, the best one of all was the wreckage of another klans trukks hitting them and killng 4 lol

rather than going for a basic build ive decided for an armoured speah-head type list, multiple transports hitting into enemy lines early on and dropping da boyz into the fight.
so from that idea, this is what ive come up with:

Basic plan:

Ghaz rides in the killkannon wagon with 5 mega armoured nobz.
19 boyz + the mek ride in another wagon.
20 boyz ride in the last wagon.
2 units of trukk boyz follow up behind using them as an armoured shield, the stormboyz will move onto a flank and keep in cover.
once i hit enemy lines i have snikrot and his boyz able to ambush and help out where needed.

most armour wont be a problem as i have plenty of S9 klaws about and even a S10 if needed (ghaz)

so all in all, how can i improve this?
i wanted an armoured spearhead, i was thinking about spending the last 500 points on extra stuff like koptas and another trukk + some buggies, but decided i would get more use from stormboyz + kommando mix, that way i have a unit with some speed and a unit able to pop up where needed at any given time.

Dunno about Ghaz... He's very killy but so expensive and doesn't really contribute a lot (and you're using a lot of transports). Also, that unit there with Snikrot, I think you need to max it, cuz in the end they're just squishy boyz and Snikrot doesn't have a bosspole.

I think you should ditch the stormboyz in favour of more vehicles, just so you don't give their dedicated anti infantry stuff to shoot at.

im thinking the same, maybe cut out the storms and kommandos and grab a few buggies + another 12 boyz in a trukk with all the works again?

just a quick change -_-
realised i hadnt actually brought trukks for the boyz, which makes it a little complicated
so droppe dthe kommandos and stormboyz + the meks klaw.
grabbed 3 buggies and as many trukk boyz as i could (with trukks this time)
also, now the large unit of boyz is gone the 3rd wagon if for the 15 burna boyz, i figured if i get them into combat with thier power weps armoured enemies wont be a problem atall.

I've been messing around with similar Battlewagon spam list and I'm having success with it. I think you're going to need a second KFF to achieve 4 up cover for everything though. If the BW he's in gets popped your trukks are either gonna be unable to move or not get anymore cover saves.

I'd consider putting snikrot back in. He's really important against gun line armies. Tau can crush a list like this and he's a necessary foil.

Burna boyz are recommended, I'd consider adding another unit of them.

losing his transport is the most worrying thing to happen, if it gets imobilised then no harm, he is a mek and can fix it, the oiler makes sure it should get done that turn.

is ghaz and his boyz lose thier ride then its not all bad, shouldnt take them too long to get into the fight, and i have a 6" waaagh! if i need to speed it up, allthough i rather use that as he runs into the hardest hitting enemy unit they have.

while i like the idea of snikrot popping up behind a fire line, its also pretty risky, the point that unit costs wont be worth it if he just kills a unit then gets shot to death.

i was going to add another unit of burnas, but in doing so ill need a transport for them, which means somehow taking a 4th wagon.
of course, if i can find the points i could allways take a dedicated transport for the nobz and ghaz.

another idea i was playing about with, was a unit of 5 nobz, eavy armour, boss pole, 2 klaws and 3 big choppas, mainly since the new kit looks wicked, but the points for just those would be evil.

just had word the games are being moved up to 2,500 points.
so in that case i may cut the burnas down to 10, add another wagon unit of burnas (10) and get some nobz with a wagon.
5 wagonz should be a nice armoured spearhead.

only army i really worry about would be tau, so many rail weapons its scary, mix that with thier standard troops able to pop the trukks and buggies, they will cause me a serious headache.


also, i never go for an army like this, i usually take a footslogging army with dreads and kanz, maybe the off trukk unit now and again, but i used to struggle alot with eldar and tau shooting me, then hiding again.

I know its counter intuitive but I'd be tempted to put Ghazghkull and co in a Truck for the 14" plus 2D6" charge as opposed to a Wagons 6"+2D6" charge at 2500 they'll be easily able to total that wagon anyway and it get's you there a turn earlier. I'd also replace Snikrot with Deff Koptas remember they can scout same as the Kommando's and have lots of Rokkits and a Buzzsaw as well

Are you dead-set on assault?

Kevin Nash has been tuning up a battlewagon list that is mostly shooty. Well, it has some excellent assault options should you need it, but could also remain in battlewagons all game as well.

He is recommending the burna boys because of some serious success he's having with them. Two nights ago I ate 80 burna hits on a single terminator unit from a wagon mounted burna boy unit. I lost 4 to that volley, then the other burna wagon put 30 more hits on the remaining two termies. I haven't seen it yet, but just imagine tank shocking a 30 man boy unit in order to get 6 under one flamer template, and then just saying "ok, thats 80 hits. Ooh I rolled way under odds, just got 31 wounds... so just go ahead and pack up your unit." Then on the very next turn, doing it again. It is absolutely horrifying.

As for the boys in wagons... use the same principal. Remember they are your scoring unit, you don't want them to BE charged, you want to charge. I just advocate shooting from the wagon until it dies. Remember the range of your shoota shots is measured from any part of the hull of the battlewagon and everyone can fire. As soon as the hard targets have been deathrolled, you slow down and start the dakka.

Move 7" shoot your big shoota, then you get 34 strength 4 shots and 6 big shoota shots, ranging 18" off the tank. If one is in range they are all in range.

It is my current opinion (my opinion has a habit of subtly changing without warning) that every battlewagon list starts here...

Then you add from there.

I like the idea of adding trukk boy units. Nash likes 20 man foot shooty boy units. I think either of those work, after that core has been put in, whatever else is personal preference. Both of us like the idea of adding buggies once the troop total felt comfortable.

Adding more wagons in a big game like that might be cool. If you really wanna try it... run 10x nobs with 10x kombi skorchas as a replacement for the burnas. It seems like there is only ever one big flame turn with the burna boys, so it isn't that tough of a downgrade, they cost another 25 points more though. Don't get suckered into too many upgrades on them. If the game goes well at all they won't need them. then I guess you could just get 2x more 20 man shoota boy units.

As to the single big mek. I love ghaz. I love warbosses, I love them on foot too. But with the battlewagon games I've seen and been a part of it seems like just about every game you take at LEAST an immobilized on one mek wagon and these are with only 3 wagons I can't even fathom single mek loadouts with 5 wagons. At 2500 points, you can absolutely guarantee his wagon is a smoking crater on turn one against any kind of shooty army...

If part of your game plan is to have a 4+ save on your vehicles all game, then 2x mek is mandatory. You can revise your plan to not need KFFs. Like you could screen battlewagons with trukks, or just go suicidal and race across the table, leaving the forcefield behind if you have to declare a ram and it takes you 13".

As to your worry about tau. There isn't that many railguns if snikrot is in your army. Either they are running 3x hammerheads, or their keystone broadside unit is looking over its shoulder.

I just won a tournament with a 3-wagon 1650pt list - been doing exactly as you describe with burna squads for a while, and it's horrific. Often you can
clip several squads too. I will be going with more meks with KMB next time, as it was extremely useful having the 24" high S shots for all
those turns when the burnas are out of range, and you don't *need* 15 flamers compared to 12.

Troop squads in wagons are basically impossible to remove from an objective in one turn - and deathrollers let you reliably
drive to whatever objective you like, even into cover.

Trucks behind battlewagons can be untargetable, depending on the relative sizes of the models - this can be a safer place to put your KFF.
