First off; Ive used the search function and ive found cool pics on glowey fire prisms, info on where to buy said magnets and the diameters to use on tyrants..

What I would like to know is.. pretty much everything to do on the subject matter.

How do you use magnets in models?

Why do you do this? (I assume for different weapon loadouts?)

How do you attach them, what works best as an adhesive?

Any what not to do's?

Ummm and finally are there any pictures showing the implimenation of magnety goodness?

If theres a link or exisitng thread on dakka Id be happy to read that.

Cheers.

the basics are to -
1, find a supplier of rare earth magnets as they are the strongest,
2, find a drill bit which the same size (eg for my fw dreads i found that the lug hole in the arm is about 4mm so bought 4mm magnets and hand-drilled the body to fit in a magnet here too),
3, get your polarity right! a magnet has a north pole and a south pole - north attracts to south & same poles repel - i suggest you use a marker pen to mark the end you want showing,
4, glue in the magnet with superglue - maybe add some green stuff the make sure it fits 100%,
5, wait for everything to dry before seeing if you've done it right!

your assumption re the weapon options is correct. however for some awkard sized models (eg some cavalry) it can also be useful to make packing away the model between games safer & easier.

here's an eg of one of my dreads:

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

check these guys out

http://www.neotexx.com/

they sell 0.5mm thick magnets for cheap. They are thin enough to surface mount and not have to worry too much about drilling into your models.

I've used them to modularize all my Battlesuits and to attach turrets to my modded tanks
