Hi all

I am planning to make a custom solution for my two upcoming princes in my chaos army.
I want detachable wings for both storage purposes and to be able to customize the princes for each battle.

The figures I plan to buy is one of each:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1300077&prodId=prod1090200&rootCatGameStyle=
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1300077&prodId=prod1090196&rootCatGameStyle=

My plan is to use these wings:
http://cgi.ebay.com/WARHAMMER-BITS-BRETONNIAN-PEGASUS-KNIGHT-WINGS_W0QQitemZ360127933725QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item360127933725&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14

and/or

http://cgi.ebay.com/WARHAMMER-BITS-HIGH-ELF-ON-DRAGON-DRAGONS-WINGS_W0QQitemZ230324981600QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item230324981600&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14

Its the wings for Bretonian pegasus knight and the High elf dragon.

My question is since I have never seen these wings IRL, will the size of the wings fit the princes? The princes are about 10cm/4 inches high.
And are they made of plastic or metal? I think metal will be bad for the balance of the figure.

My plan is to drill holes into the backs of the princes and make plugs on the wings with GS to fit the wing in the back holes. When I am not using the wings I will use small nurgligs with GS plugs and make then looking over the princes shoulders. ( the covard little bastards )

/Martin

I just searched 'daemon prince' in the gallery (link above).
Not sure if you like any of these????
I'm sure if you PM or comment on the pics the OPs will be able to give you some info.

Personally I think the knight wings are too small and the dragon wings too big!

P.S Anybody with a Daemon Prince in their gallery TAG IT NOW!!!!!!!

The Pegasus wings will be too small, at least in my opinion. For my nurgle prince I used Undead Carrion wings that I sawed in half and pinned in place but you should be able to magnetize them as well. they are also small but since they are all rotted and useless looking anyway i though it fit well for a Nurgle prince.

Dragon wings will work but will be fairly large. This is what most people use, however, as they are easily attainable as bits from GW and are plastic and easier to put on a metal model.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Hmm I had hopes fo the pegasus wings since they have feathers. Could be kinda cool with wings "fallen angel" style in a greayish/greenish color.
Gotta look in to th arrion wings aswell. Thanks for the replys.

i am using WHFB Zombie Dragon wings on my GW Daemon Prince of Nurgle. it will require some cutting and drilling but once it is epoxied in place it is going to look sweet.

The Zombie dragon wings are real nice. Should be a perferct match for the Nurgle prince. I am leaning on the High elf dragon wings or maybe the GW ordinary dragon wings for the other prince............or perhaps the Balrog ones...... decisions, decisions!!!

They're illegal to use in tournaments due to copyright issues with the Lord of the Rings name AFAIK, so they aren't a good idea if the army is going to see tournament play.

You can order Bloodthirster wings fro mthe GW site, they should work well. I ordered a couple of sets of Winged Nightmare wings for my princes, but I'm pretty sure they're going to end up being too small :( If they are I know the Bloodthirster wings will work, so I'll go with those. I do hate the fact they're metal though I plan on magnetizing the wings so hopefully I won't have to deal with failing glue and such.

the new HE dragon wings are same size as balrog wings, so they should work fine

other than that, thirster wings are great, but need pinning in place.
classic plastic dragon wings are fine, just not posed too well.

I believe that the original demon prince had lug holes (which fit the vent things on the back pack) the right size for the old plastic dragon wings.

At £4.90 i think they're worth a go.
don't know if the nurgle one has the same lug holes on its back (note to self - must order it soon!)

btw can someone tell me how to do that link thing where you change a link to a single word or phrase please!

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

My new personal favorite Chaos Daemon Prince wings are those used by Cadaver for his Nurgle DP in this thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/230093.page

They're Tomb King Carrion wings...brilliant...

Use fantasy dragon wings. They are the right size and look good. They also fit perfectly on the model.

Cheap basteard that I am, I used Tyranid gargoyle wings for my Nurgle princes. You get two pairs a blister, they look leathery and they are pretty small, which -to me- fits perfectly with the humorous style of Nurgle. If it was to be a Khorne prince, I'd buy the mechanical wings from Micro Art Studio. I think that feathered wings would fit better on a Tzeench prince.

If you want to make the wings detachable (I experimented with that, used the Balrog wings, didn't like the look, too big imhop):
The "normal" DP's morphed jumppack consists of separate pieces. I would build them detachable so you can plug the wings there.
The Nurgle DP has two rows of spore chimneys (or whatever), which also are separate pieces. I'd place magnets for wings below there, so you can exchange them for the chimneys.
