I had a battle with my friend today (He has iron warriors) and i was doing ok until his terminators deep struck behind my warriors and caused hell, they didn't allow armour saves and just kicked my necrons ass as there was no res orb near by. I teleported my other unit back to the objective (via veil of darkness) and the terminators assaulted them as well. The only thing that i have found effective so far is a heavy destroyer shot firing every now and again and rapid firing, as there is enough dice to make them fail a good few times. Has any other players found terminators so damn annoying?!?

yeah, terminators are a hard unit to quickly eliminate for necrons.
Although a lord with that nasty weapon that ignores all saves tends to do some serious damage.
Also, the rarely used Pariahs do some serious damage to powerfist or thunder hammer/storm shield terminators. Although, they would take serious abuse from terminators with dual lightning attacks through higher initiative, 3 attacks a piece(4 on the charge) and re-rolls to wound. And they don't benefit from the we'll be back rule, which is the reason many people don't use them. The only other way around terminators is to pour as many shots as possible at them or hit them with AP 2 before they can get into cover.

The only problem with AP 2 is that only a heavy destroyer has that and they only get 1 shot, making them only good against tanks and the such to make them useful at all really :(

A 12man necron unit plus a necron lord with a phylactery (he doesnt seem to go away with this), gaze of flame (its just cruel when your crazy-ass assault unit looses 50% of its attacks. I find its also usually overlooked until they assault.) and the phase shifter.
T5, 3W's, 4++, I4 str 5 power weapon with a str 5 assault 3 ap 3 weapon means you can actually concider rapid firing first turn the termie deep-strike, second turn detatch him from the unit.. rapid fire again & assault whats left of the termies with your lord. They will die. If they dont I doubt they will put enough wounds on the lord to kill him, If they do.. theres a 4+ he gets back up!
It would also be worth to move your necrons with the lord to keep them in rez orb range.. even if they dont assault. I dont see how even 10termies could take than easily. Hmm.. upon rough math-hammer.. I shall reduce my opinions of this tactic effectivness to counter a 5man squad. Shooting seems to only kill 1 termie from 12 warriors rapid firing.

Good advice here.
Another thing you can do is to bring a Monolith. Str9 AP2 Particle Lash is a nice toy to play with termies. And if you have a monolith nearby, you can have your lord (with a rez orb) and his warriors rapid fire into the termies and then get assaulted. They'll kill some/many of your warriors, and your lord will then kill a couple of them. Next turn, you WBB, then use the monolith during your move phase to WBB them again and teleport to the monolith. Then you rapidd fire them again.  Rinse and repeat.

I did check up on the monolith for that (when I mentioned uber lord gribblyness) and while its a powerful weapon its AP3 not 2. Granted one model will have to take a str 9 ap 1 hit (it will be dealt to the model under the central hole of the blast template but due to wound/hit allocation you can give it to any model in the squad). Will vaperise any special character though. Charging in whole squads then porting through the monolith is always a good call or large mobs of units affording them only one turn to weather close-combat & a re-roll of WBB rolls - unless thier subjected to a sweeping advance. No a problem with terminators, as they cant make that move! This matter about sweeping advances destroying necron units is under some contention ive noticed.. The way I see it - The unit is destroyed in the same way a unit counts as destroyed if it gets delayed for too long via a deep-striking & the mishap table, Imho.

Necrons have a hard time vs. Terminators, not only in this incarnations of the game but also in former.
Necrons are lacking power weapons or AP 2 weapons so that even normal Termies are hard to stop.
Rapid firing can force the opponent to make a lot of rolls. This helps to thin out a Termie unit a bit, but one round of shooting can hardly destroy a 10 men Termie squad.

I think necrons are totally nerfed for 5th ed it's not funny. Their weapons are simply too weak compared to their fluff. People seem to go on and on about maxing out on destroyers. Frankly their effectiveness are questionable. Space marine armies with vindicators and termies won't have a hard time at all at beating the crons!

The problem with AP 2 against Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield Terminators is that you only effectively reduce their save by 1 pt as they fall back on their 3+ invulnerable from the shield. Makes high AP weapons useless against them so you have to bring them down with prodigious amounts of small arms fire.

i do like the idea of having the gaze of flame etc as that will be 5ish less attacks i have to worry about, and as the terminators are chaos i dont have 2 worry about storm shields, and lord can be devastating to terms as he doesnt allow armour saves in CC, thanks for the advice, i will try to put this to use tomorrow

You don't get two turns of shooting before they assault, unless you are not rapid firing.
If they appear 22" away or something, you'd get two turns of shooting. If they appear 9" away from you, you can rapid fire (have to stay within 12" to do this) and on his turn he moves 6" and assaults 6". That is One turn of shooting.
Of course, if your nearby units all run away and run D6" extra instead of shooting, you can take a few pot shots with your farther-away troops.
They won't be targetting his main army though, if all your destroyers are completely firing on the termies.
So it's a toss up.

rappid firing warriors can do the job quite fine. two ten man necron squads can reduce a 5 man termie squad to 1 or 2 models(unless space marine player worships the dice god). particle whip, even though ap 3 will usualy kill 2-3 if its a direct hit. one from the ap1 and 1-2 failed saves. in any case massed fire will weaken or kill a termie squad, low ap works as well however heavy destoyers are better left for shooting a vehicles.

My friend that I play often uses Necrons a lot. About the best way to deal with terminators with necrons is too unleash tons of small arms fire. A squad of 20 rapid firing warriors should be able to take down 3 termies in a round of fire. A squad of 5 destroyers can take out another one. That should put a good hit on an average sized termie unit.

well i play my friend today, im using 2000 points, so i might use some pariahs, use them as a small counterstrike units, if the termies attack my lords unit (Il equip him with gaze of flame and other war gear and a warsythe), so he will be able to hold his own against a unit of 5 termies, use pariahs to charge turn after, they can slaughter a termie squad

Don't use gaze of flame, but I think you should use solar pulse on your lord to protect your pariahs from long range fire just incase your opponent knows how deadly they are.
