Any D6G listoners will know that I have been getting into the LOTR SBG. Is there anybody else out there currently playing this little Beauty.........?

What are the good lists ?

Can anybody tell me about any good scenarios they have been playing?

What are your views on this game?

Try www.thelastalliance.com and also www.one-ring.co.uk for loads of LotR-specific advice and help and fan-generated stuff.

I was heavily into the game from its release until around mid-2006 or so, when I found I was getting a bit burned out and wanted to try other things. I still kept my stupidly large collection and do still play on occasion.

"Good lists"? Couldn't tell ya I'm afraid. I'm strictly a scenarios man myself.

"Good scenarios"? Depends what you like. I enjoyed the Scouring of the Shire book's scenarios myself. The Khazad-dum supplement was pretty good too (although I should declare my interest here - I got a named playtesting credit on that one... )

One of the problems with doing scenarios though is you need the precise models (or pretty close) and you may not have them to hand. A solution I came up with back in the day was to create a bunch of generic scenarios. THey provided a bunch of fun for my friends and I and allowed us to battle it out with themed points match forces in games that were a little more interesting than basic "fight to the death" scenarios. See the attachment Fear, fire, foes awake! for details!

Legions of Middle-earth also provides some half-decent generic scenarios as long as you ignore the apocryphal and error-riddled force organisation data.

Although I'm not a Tournament player myself. (I took part in the 2005 UK LotR GT, and it took me a week to recover my stamina. 2 days of solid gaming is beyond me these days I'm afraid) I can heartily recommend the UK LotR GT to anyone who likes "competitive" gaming. I have a lot of friends who go and they all thoroughly enjoy it, and those that attend tourneys for other systems comment that of the 3 core systems the LotR gamers tend to be the most laid-back and friendly when it comes to tournaments.

This year's was on 29th Jan, so its too late now for that, but there's a doubles tournament coming up later in the year (11th/12th July, according to the WHW blog calendar: http://warhammerworld.typepad.com/WHW%20Calender2.pdf), and that was also well received last year.

One of the nice things about the LotR tournaments in the UK is that you have to take a good and an evil force and you match up alternately. So you will always have a good vs evil game, no "Blue on Blue" games that you get in 40k, Hordesmachine or WFB tourneys.

It helps retain some of the atmosphere of the background and make tournaments less about simply abstract rulesmanship I found.

Sounds good, maybe we should team up in the doubles?

I love LoTR.

Its a good fun game to just dip into when the mood takes you. I play it a lot with my 10 year son.

I too have played it at UK tornies and the good and evil thing is good fun.

Its not 40k but i like it

If I could squeeze a couple of days out of my schedule in July I'd love to. Unfortunately it hits right on my busiest time at work so I can't commit to a weekend about then. Which is a real shame.

I live up near Newcastle upon Tyne. In the People's Republic of Geordieland!

I've got some good friends in South Wales. Llanelli, to be exact, where I had my first job, 20 years ago!

It's a very, very long drive! And an even longer train journey!

Nottingham's almost mid way though! Maybe Warhammer World is a possibility? I'll be nearby to Nottingham visiting my in-laws around Easter time if that is viable for you. PM me if there's a chance of a meet!

Incidentally I see that there's a review of this year's GT just been posted on TLA:

Seems like a good time was had by all!

Played another game recently, Men of Gondor Vs Urak Hai, around 100 models per side, very very good.

I have decided to do the Fall of the Necromancer campaign and to that end have ordered a load of stuff.

I love LOTR SBG I do......

Hey there, I'm an immense LOTR fan! I bought it as a curiosity many moons ago, and it immediately became my fantasy rules set of choice: At long last there's a set of rules that let heroes do heroic things! And with the soon-to-arrive War Of The Ring rules, the games one major problem (i.e. the fact that once the games get over a certain size it tends to bog down) will be going away...
