Well, I got this idea off of someone elses mistake over someone elses thread asking about snow terrain.

What if someone converted Orks on snowboards to represent them being on Warbikes?

This got me thinking, as it would be a fun project, what if I made a whole army of snow themed Orks on bikes, but with snowboards?

The concept would be to have Boyz, mounted on snowboards made from plasticard that was bent via heat on the edges, with the Twin-Linked Dakkagun on the front on the board, and some type of rocket on the back to propel them and create the exhaust to warrant the cover save.

For Nobz on bikes, I would use actual bikes, but they would be modded to be snowmobiles, by making the front wheel attachments into the ski-like apparatus on the front, and using both wheels, a wide rubber band, and plasticard slats to make up a snow tread on the back. Wazzdakka would be the same, only with more Dakka, and possibly a more impressive snowmobile.

Overall, this would be extremely cheap, only 171 dollars for a 1.5k point army, and it would be a blast to convert for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or protests?

Well first of all you should rephrase the thread title. Once again, I was fooled because I thought someone already did build Orks like that and then it's just another idea thread

Interesting idea, but if you go with Snow-themed Orks (something that could come out pretty cool, no pun intended) I wouldn't just use Snowbards on bikes. Bikers have a higher toughness because there overall bigger models than infantry. I don't think it would work well with just plastic card and twin-linked dakka-guns on a snowboard would probably look rather dumb.
All the bikers should get some sort of snowmobile. If you still want to use Snowboards, it might work for Stormboyz, surfing on some kind of avalanche.

Nice idea you could also make some terain for those orks, a lift for them to go up the hill, and a cottage wich serves hot choco hmmmm hot choco.
I think I'm gonna make myself a cuppa of that.

What title would you have me change it to?

This army wouldn't be one I would go to tourneys with, so if the extra toughness isn't represented then I doubt it would cause any sort of uproar.

This would just be for fun, and thus to save cost I would use snowboards as bikes, as I wouldn't be taking any Stormboyz.

Just as long as you throw some 'shrooms on them somewhere to keep with the real-world theme!

'Shrooms? Care to elaborate? I am a bit unread on Orky fluff, as I just started my musings for this army last night.

FYI, I picked up 8 small appx. 25-28mm scale snowmobiles at Wal-Mart a few months ago in the toy section with the dinky cars.

I plan on using them as warbikes myself, depending on which army I squeeze them into.

Der iz no such 'ting as shooty Orks or slugga Orks! ONLY "ARD ORKS!!!

Well, I live in FL, so you won't find any snowmobiles down here, even as toys. This is where the snowboards come in, it makes it easier to get "counts-as" Warbikes for cheap.

Anyone else have any comments or protests? Or any tips?

You could use the track bike and deffcoptas to make snow mobiles. the front of the deffcopta has the ski's the rear of bike with the tracks combined wound make a great snow mobile. Just an idea but i'd love to see it done.

It's not just about a tournament situation. I jus think that Orks standing on small pieces of plastic card shouldn't be representing Warbikes. It just doesn't feel right.

Of course it will look a bit silly, but the snowboards won't be to scale to normal boards. It will be suitably out of scale just like the rest of 40k, and it will be Orkified up a bit (extra plating, armor on the guns) to start to represent the extra toughness.

I know it won't ever fully represent it as well as an actual bike does, but this is such a cheaper alternative to the bikes (22 for 10 or 35 for 3) that I just have to go for it.

I will check out the Deffkopta option, it sounds promising (thanks for the tip), and if they are around the same price and look better, I am on board for it.

EDIT: looking at the Deffkopta, I have deduced that they have a great front for a snowmobile, but the back is all wrong. Its quite short, and there really isn't any basis from which to make a snow tread. I think I am better off converting slats for the front of warbikes rather than free balling whole backs of snowmobiles on Deffkoptas.

How did that work out, do you have any pics?

Do you think that with a similar thing, but snowboards, would they be able to pass (in friendly games) as warbikes?

With the deffcoptas, you could use the front half of the deffcopta and the back half of the bike for the snowmobiles and then use the front of the bike and rear of the deffcopta to make custom deffcoptas so no waste.

The thing is I wouldn't be using any Deffkoptas in my army, just bikes, so I would be spending twice as much on each Nob biker as I planned to.

Do a good job and you could sell the custom coptas to cover the costs. Say that 5 time fast.

Still, I wouldn't want to deal with that, not to mention I don't have the money to buy both in the first place.

I would just use a deffcopter - cut up the rotter mount & mount it vertically (kinda like a miami swamp boat thingy)

Actually, it's quite cheap. Since I am basing Warbikes off Boyz, the whole 1500 point army will only cost me $171 plus the cost of plasticard. The tough part is trying to find out how to convert it.

I still need to find treads (I am thinking Thunderfire cannon treads if I can find them as bits), rockets, and figure out whether to use Warbikes or Deffkoptas as snowmobiles.
