Just thought I'd do a quick poll to see what people think of the new header. There is always room for change so I invite you to offer your opinions along with any other general suggestions you might have for dakka.

spent an hour or so looking about at some of the armies so far lol.
its neat, tidy, and has some great stuff on it, so i like it.

It's a lot cleaner than before, in my opinion. I really like it, makes everything seem more accessible.

I like it. I'm still getting used to it being on the left side now, but once I get past that it should be fine.

As I said to you over PM Legoman, I think it looks a lot better, but it's on the left hand side and that's really annoying. I'm so used to having the 'forums' button on the far right.

to be honest, I hadn't even noticed the change, but now that you mention it, I kind of wish it was on the right;

it's a little odd having that on the left side but the other navigation-style buttons on the right.

I think it set's up really well. Pretty easy to use and I like Lego's!

I don't care where it is as long as it is easily readable and available.

It looks nice but i thought everything on the right was more....easy to click? i don't know how to phrase it. lets just say i like it before the change, but the change looks good.

I hate changing anything that people are used to, and the header is one of the most annoying things to chance (hence the poll). The reason for the change was that a considerable number of people that we tested were unable to find their way around the site due to the navigation being on the right under the banner. Banners create a natural blind spot on web pages and it was taking a lot of concentration from people coming to dakka for the first time to be able to find their way around in detail. The new layout is much clearer, putting navigation in the standard place under the logo and will allow first time users to digest the real content and strengths of dakka.

So far it seems okay, but I will give it a few weeks before I decide whether I hate or love it.

As I do a fair amout of browsing on an older laptop (1024x768) and sometimes the front page involves horizontal scrolling, I'm much happier with the link on the left.

It works better, ceans up the top of the page, and is easier to use. The side of the page it is on doesn't matter at all.

I like it a lot.

This may sound like an odd suggestion, but why not just have a 'Forums' button on the right where it was as well as the new buttons? Wouldn't that solve everyone's issue?

Either put the forums button on the right, put it back, or wait it out long enough that I get used to clicking left, and then never change it again.

I thought about it but there are two reasons why I cant really do this. First off, smaller resolution browsers need the extra space in the header for future features to be added - the big links on the left are not going to be the only links there when we add more cool toys in the future. The other reason is that google only pays attention to the first 60 or so links on a page, so having two links to the same page would be a waste in terms of search engine optimisation and would be throwing away opportunity. A link being on the right there would just confuse new people who saw it and if they got in the habit of clicking it then the links on the left might be used less frequently. Having all the links in a large format on the left has already made a significant boost to users visiting other parts of the site that they usually dont, so has been really good for the health of dakka already.

Forum button is in the best place for me. In the old version, it kept disappearing off the edge of my screen. Consider me happy.

I changed my mind, now that the color shceme has changed for the whole sight it's annoying.
