Pretty the best way for Tau to kill things. If they don't have storm shields, hit them with plasma rifles, otherwise use pulse rifles, carbines and kroot rifles or a massed kroot charge. Interpose a speed bump unit between them and the rest of your army so they don't charge multiple units.

Hop in your Devilfish, and laugh as they move slowly and purposefully towards you.
Unless they're fleeting.
Then shoot them - everything you have.
It boils down to two things. You either ignore them or you dump every last pulse round you have into them. Any compromise means you're screwing yourself somewhere that turn against the rest of his army.

Pretty much what the others said.
Land Raider dies to a railgun pretty quickly, with 5's to penetrate and +1 to damage. Then JSJ them to death with plas/fus battlesuits. If they have TH/SS, spam your FW squads at them.

They have the relentless USR confered to them via their terminator armor & not the subset rule; slow & purposeful. All they cant do is make sweeping advances. So im pretty sure if you have more kroot than the termies have attacks (12 or so?) you can effectively lock them in combat or speed=bump, run off, re-engage. 100pts worth of 10 kroot & 5 hounds should do some real damage on a charge neways.. doing atleast thier points in damage to termies. Lightning claws will reduce this but the hounds still go first. Knock that down to 10kroot + 2 hounds for a bit of tactical flexibility with the ability to deploy in a transport.

Charging terminators with kroot generally isn't a good idea as they will get pwned, leaving the termies free to do their thing in their own turn. Instead use the kroot as a screen- either surround the termies or surround your own troops (with no gaps allowing a multicharge). That way you will get an extra turn of shooting, and allow other units to get into rapid fire range without getting charged.

As far as I am aware, no models in terminator armor in any army can perform a sweeping advance.

Suits with plasma are a really good investment, and the plasma/missile combo is very functional in take all comer scenarios. Unfortunately, if they have Thunder Hammers, Storm Shields, and Shrike, you are gonna have a rough go.

As a completely different response, I favor suits with twin-linked flamers and a missile pod. A cluster of terminators is about the juiciest target for those I can think of.
The last time a played against a deathwing player, my Shas'el & a trio of suits pounced and dropped 23 flamer wounds on Belial & his squad... which killed 4 of them and wounded the boss man. It took very little else to finish off the survivors.

1)Keep Consolidation Distance (6'') between your units.
2)Try to calculate which unit/s is going to engage them without distracting unnecessary energy from your main objectives at that point. Meaning that- ok they are Terminators but the point question is, do you engage them or do you avoid them? Or do you continue towards your objectives? Anyway, its a game of descissions...
3) Personally I always keep a Threat Targeting Priority on my mind, like when we play against Tyranids. You know TAU have a double edged sword called range diversity, meaning we can engage almost everything from almost anywhere from almost the beggining of the battle. SO? We forget sometimes an old basic war rule: "fight where and when you can succeed..."

Not really
3 to hit
5 to pen
4+ if he has smoke
5 to destroy
Thats not very reliable at all...Thats a 4% chance of destroying with one shot.

if you're going to try and take down a land raider, i'd probably focus most of that turn's markerlights on him. most players are cocky with LR and don't use smoke since they'd lose out on their machine spirit shooting in addition to losing out on their own due to movement but we'll go with it since it's your example. let's say you focused all your markerlights on a LR and got 4 hits. the numbers would be:
2+ to hit (Marker)
4 to glance, 5/6 to pen
no cover save (3 markers)
5+ to destroy on the glance, 4+ to destroy (you forgot the +1 due to AP1)
granted, that's still FAR from guaranteed but it's the close we'll get and still better than a lascannon.

If he's deathwing the LR/C will make all pens go to glance when smoke is popped and a smart DA players won't put his LR in a Railguns LoS for longer than a turn at most (unless the board is naked then there is no option =P)

Smokes no longer make all pens glance, there is a universal damage table that operates for both glancing and penetrating hits with modifiers, a glancing hit suffers a -2 modifier, ap 1 gets +1, open topped gives +1, ap- gives -1, so smoke now only obscures a vehicle, granting it a 4+ cover save to shooting attacks. Pretty much railgun/markerlight is the BEST way to kill vehicles in 40k. But this is off topic, I find in general termies can be a pain to deal with, because unless there is cover inbetween you and them, and unless your kroot are convieniently parked right where they land, the best option I find is to up and run until the oportunity presents itself to deal with them, mobility is your best weapon in tau, and termies suffer the same problems as all infantry, they are slow, so even when facing deathwing, throw everything at their mobility, and they are effectively out of the battle, now shrike becomes a bit of a nuisance, but you can always ellect not to allow him ;D

Really tau are kind of in a bad place but at least the termies cant charge out of deepstrike (right?) so whatever there near is pretty much a loss, but before then you can shoot the crap out of em maybe you can get away but if they have fleet, you dont have a fish and lucks not on your side (Very common events in every 40k game) shoot the crap out of em (hey if they happen to not be fearless maybe you'll pin them.) if not, take the loss and make sure the rest of your army wont be next.
