So I purchased the black reach set, basically for the orks and mini rulebook...Im not sure what Im going to do with the space marines. I figure what the hell, might as well paint em up as a side project. I just have not decided which chapter to go with, im straying away from any yellow or white paint schemes. But i would like to do something you dont see much of, which is any oxymoron for space marine armies, anyway....suggestions?

I've never seen anyone play Space Sharks. or Rainbow Warriors. However, I recommend the Valedictors. They're one of the missing Legions, dontchya know?

GW hasn't yet named the 2nd and 11th Legions, and any previous instance, like this one, has been retconned.

life.

I'd go with rainbow warriors or for comedy go for "the pinky marines" (surefire way to get your GF into the hobby)

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

Our club painted and sold (on Ebay) a Space Sharks army as our annual Toys For Tots fund raiser a couple years back. So there's at least one out there.

Lalalalalala! I'm not listening!!!

Actually, I think I wrote that, originally on Wikipedia. Someone just copied it verbatim to Lexicanium.

Anyway, this little exchange proves that the Valedictors would be a good choice. Nerd-fights would break out whenever you open your case!

* Or wrote is collaboratively, anyway. You know how Wikipedia is sometimes. People tweaking things around until a consensus (i.e. someone gets tired of arguing) is reached.

Nothing wrong with that. And anyway, I'd rather not have the 2nd and 11th explained. Some things need to stay mysteries, and some things get ruined when you explain them (Legion of the Damned being a good example).

Very clean, crisp colour scheme, I've seen one army online, they have very old fluff. They have a white and green scheme, you said you wanted to move away from white but consider them, it's a very cool colour mix and ancient beardies like me will nod sagely to you when you take that army out to play.

Well i plan on starting space wolves whenever they come out anyway...I might just paint them as wolves to get a head start...meh, (thinking out loud) but then the new space wolf models will probably be better anyway....hmmm. I guess I could go crimson fists...? I would have done black templars but I want to use the new codex.

Go for the grey marines, just codex grey with minimal highlights, as little colour as possible, see if anyone even notices they're painted.

Hah, that was the first WD I ever bought! How time flies.

... Yeah, that's totally not relevant, sorry.

Anyway, I was in the same boat as the OP with the AoBR minis: I swapped the tacticals, but kept the Terminators to play Space Hulk (and the Dreadnought, because they're awesome). I went with Crimson Fists, even though I already have a Space Wolf army.

Sorry, should have said "... rather not have hte 2nd and 11th explained..."

Quite a different meaning with that change of letter.

You could always just make up your own color scheme. I usually find that a lot more satisfying than just copying one of the "official" chapters.
