I've recently picked up Knights of the Old Republic, and I'm turning the the people of Dakka to offer advice and suggestions as I progress through the game. IIRC, someone did this with Diablo II a while ago, and that turned out well.
My character: Morik
Class: Scout/Jedi Consular
Playing all the way through to the Dark Side
Just completed the first stage (Endar Spire), and I've just arrived on Taris.
I'll be checking back regularly to give info on my progress.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

taris is the most unfacinating piece of junk planet in the game, but nevertheless, it is good for stat development to do every side mision to its full.

The only combat stat that matters for you is Dexterity. Once you can get the Weapon Finness feat it means you add your Dex bonus to CC attacks instead of Str... meaning you only need to build a single stat.
Admittedly I played a good Consuler, so I also had the bonus of Maxed Dex + Finness + that stat boost power at +5... you had an unhittable murder machine with double bladed lightsabers.

There's no such thing as weapon finesse.
You can't add your Dex bonus to CC attacks. Only armour.
Sunday Evening (last night): Finished Taris, Dantooine, and started Korriban.

I usually went to Korriban last. Tatooine and the water planet are easier to do early on.
And I followed this.

This is an amazing game, completed it a few times myself i personally do korriban last, as some of the quests can be a bit tricky at a low level, otherwise keep it up, you will enjoy the game no matter as it is a fantastic one (Knights of the old republic 2 is not as good i think... )

Who needs Lightsabers? By the end of the game I could enchant crowds of enemies, before annihilating them with, say force lightning. I made a personal point of chocking as many characters as possible, just for that personal touch.
I think me and Vader were on the same wavelength.
Seriously though, force powers made me nigh on invincible. It's weird to see groups of headbanging Sith around a Jedi who's lobbing grenades though, it must be said. Just don't rule it out of the next Star Wars.

Just finished Korriban, and I've maxed out my evil meter. And this is only 7 hours into the game.

It takes really little time to max out evil relative to maxing out good (I thought, at least). Did you clear out the crystal cave earlier on?

The Rodian(I believe) there sells some good stuff. I believe there're some good lightsaber crystals you can buy from him as well as some other good items. Just be ready for some tough fights later upon later visits. You should be visiting here before you get too much further along - once you're done with the last planet, you can't come back here. You can only access this location on the PC version, though.
Also: Krayt Dragon Pearls = the awesome.

He runs off when you turn evil. He was wearing Cassus Fett's armour (cost me 15,000 credits dammit), and had my two best pistols.

Were you male or female?
I believe if you go Dark Side as a female, you can seduce him to the Dark Side if you play your cards right.

It was BEFORE The Sith Lords. This is about a completely different Sith Lord, Darth Revan.

Nah, there's a sequel to it called: 'Knights of the Old Republic II Sith Lords' (or KOTOR 2), much better than the first.
I believe another addition to the series is in developement also.

KOTOR Online - the MMO no one wanted nor needed - is in development, with extra-cartoony graphics, giant novelty sized Lightsabres and boring looking combat.
We want KOTOR3. Instead they give us a pay-by-the-month time waster.

They'll need to make it well. Most mmo's devolve into a bizarre arms race for levels, which only the unemployed or insomniacs can really gain from. The only mmo that I've found time to be less of an issue is Eve: Online. I don't see why starting off as say, a lowly stormtrooper, should stop you from icing a flashy Jedi.
