seems few people like using lesser demons in the newer 4th edition CSM codex. I think they got a purpose these days (they are a workable counter to TH&SS terminators, because they are pretty cheap close combat troops with a 5+ invul save), but that is one special use and not great.

I think a simple rule change might make them more attractive: Give them the ability to take icons - the boxes have them anyway, since they are used for WHFB as well as 40k. The prices seem to be the same for all kinds of units that can take them, so:

+50 for icon of Nurgle, making them T 4(5)
+40 for icon of Tzeench, granting them 4+ invul
+30 for icon of Khorne, adding +1A
+20 for icon of Slaneesh, adding +1I
Since they are fearless, icon of Chaos glory does not make any sense.

What do you think? Too attractive?

Now, generall i would agree with you, however this is leaning too close to chaos daemons, so on this on, im going to have to say no.

That would be nice. They'd still suck, however.

The best thing to do would be either allow CSM to take real Daemons or just burn the 4th ed codex and pretend it never existed.

I think Chaos Daemons are fine as-is. I see the CSM Daemons as MoCU Daemons, similar to basic, unmarked CSM.

If you want flavored Daemons, there's a whole book for that.

If you had flavored generic Daemons, how would you differentiate a Daemon under Icon from a Marked Daemon? Too messy, so KISS and no Icons.

The same way you differentiate a Marine under Icon from a Marked Marine? (i.e. Khorne Berzerkers vs Chaos Space Marines with Khorne Icon)

Then this should wait until CSM get a generic Daemons box with the various Icons in 6th Edition.

Meaning that 1 color of Horrors turns into another color of Horrors?

The generic daemons should have some options, but not icons of the 4 ruinous dudes. Perhaps something the like of daemonic speed and such, from the old book...
