Display your Army at Games Day!

We're doing some new things at Games Day! "Armies on Parade" is an opportunity for Generals, Commanders and Warlords alike to show off their armies at Games Day for all to see and admire.

Armies from all systems are eligible and prizes will be awarded to those chosen to be exceptional for their appearance and theme. Games Day attendees will also be able to vote on a crowd favorite and that lucky individual will receive an award as well.
So if you've got the world's coolest themed army, over-the-top conversions that will make even the hardest of veterans weep, or just a sense of deep personal pride with your accomplishment and are looking to show the world, well wait no longer because we want you, and your army, at Games Day this year!

Contest Guidelines

Space is limited! Baltimore and Chicago Games Days will accomodate the first 100 registered entrants each, with Toronto Games Day accepting the first 32 registered entrants, so hurry before space runs out!

Register by email with your name, type/race of army, game system, which Games Day you will be attending and if you want, what hour block of time you can be available to talk about your army.

armiesonparade@games-workshop.com

Games Workshop EMAIL REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION REQUIRED FOR ENTRY.
Competition is open to paid Games Day ticket holders only. Your army must adhere to a legal, playable Codex/Army Book/Legions army list, consist of fully painted and based Citadel miniatures and be displayed on a self-supplied scenic base no larger than 24" by 36" (check http://ca.games-workshop.com/ for size details for Toronto Games Day). Entrant must set army up by noon and pick up after 4:30 pm. Games Workshop is not liable for any damages.

Did you really think you could enter 'any' army in a GW GamesDay event? That would be the day.

Why would you take flames of war to a games day?

And why would GW even consider displaying another companies stuff?

That just doesnt make any sense to me.

Hmm...maybe I'll actually attend Games Day for the first time in a long time and enter the GCult.

Creating a showcase for armies is a good idea and will be a nice counterpart to GD. Frankly, I enjoy looking at an impressive army more than looking at individual models.

Considering GW seems to have been systematically killing off the "hobby" aspect for years, this is a great move on their part. I'd love a chance to walk around and see in person the armies I've drooled over online (i.e. Alienids, Gorgon's GCult, etc)

If nothing else, I can set a deadline for my army! Next years Gamesday, I might have to swing out and display a fully finished Waaagh Teek! (yes, I work slow...)

I like this idea. A lot. Hopefully it will lead to more GW coverage of player armies. One of the things I've really missed about the old White Dwarf, and about GW's withdrawal from community-building generally, is the loss of opportunities to see what other players are doing.

(Thank god for websites, here and elsewhere, for picking up some of the slack.)

Frankly, I'm a lot more impressed with a well-crafted army than a multi-massive slaughter performance at a tournament anyway. Live and let live: if you're into the games, fine, go for it. But it's nice to see GW looking for ways to honor and promote other dimensions of the hobby as well.

Heh, were it not that huge chunks of my army were not GW models, I would love to display the Lost and the Orky there. Ahh well, it will give me more time to ogle the other entries!

Great idea, I'll dedicate some serious time to look at the armies...that is the high point of the hobby, and it's nice to see it get a stage at GD.

Great Idea...I'd love too...once GW has a GD that's closer then 2,000+ miles away.

I signed up, they wrote back already so here's some other info I got...

you gotta be there by noon to set up. Display boards are ok but it can be no bigger than 2'x3'. Your army will be protected behind glass so your models won't find their way into anyone's pockets. You'll be given an hour or so that you can be there to answer questions about your army and present it but they want the armies on display all day. And obviously all models have to be citadel stuff (new or old) and based on a valid army list, but special apocalypse stuff & cool conversions are ok as long as the whole army fits in your 2x3 space.

They should make that clearer. My first thought on reading the description was that you would just set up on a table; under those conditions I wouldn't imagine anyone wanting to enter.

With the knowledge that your army will be by-and-large "safe," I think it's a great concept. We all spend hundreds of hours painting our little men, and I think we all like opportunities to show off the results of that effort.
