Something to kill our Arachnians. Kill lots and lots of them. But kill enough? That's up to your strategy, and the dice.

A squad of five, each of whom has a rocket launcher (with low-yield thermonuclear warheads), a heavy flamer, a Y-rack HE bomb launcher, a laser cutter and a hand flamer, is $19.99. Construction is a snap. And these are heavy metal.

Sculpted by Aaron Brown of Black Crab Sculpting.

Wow, these are 28mm? Is that the scale or their height?

That's the scale. They are actually a little over 40mm tall.

Hmm... I sense Ogryn proxies. They're very nice looking, and only 20bucks for 5. Is there any way to get singles? I'm looking to have them all armed like the painted model being shown.

I'm kinda fond of this one. Look, it's female model that isn't a total hootchie.

It'd make a better female commissar than the GW "GIRLS WEARS DRESSES TO BATTLE" one.

So thats not man sized powered armour but a "mini Mech" of some form? Explains the anatomical issues with the groin then!

My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....

It is a man-sized power armour. It's 40mm tall, not 400mm tall. The suit is described in the book that inspired this model as weighing 1,000 pounds, and I am not a fan of the padded shoulder look, so assumed that the weight would go onto lengthening the limbs for greater powered stride and reach. Hence they are longer in the leg. The hands and feet of the infantryman stop well above the remote feet and claws of the suit.

Unlike some other power armoured fellows out there, these guys actually fit into their suits. Aaron designed them using a sketch of a adult male human and built the armour around him. It took quite a while actually to get suits made that looked good and also fit on a human body. It's easy to make one, or the other, but not both.

Anyways, enjoy!

I'd fully agree, very difficult to do.

Nice work then.... but I just think the thighs look to wide apart for my liking....

My taste, but nice work non the less, and definitly liking some of the other stuff on the site!

I really don't like the model. Mongoose already did the SST ape-suits a lot better than this. They just look like strangely proportioned space marine rip-offs.

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

I can see these miniatures having some appeal to some gamers. However, IMHO, these are little bit "old fashioned" for me.

When I saw the thread title I was hoping for somthing a bit more "human" and not so GW power armoured....but, thats just where my attitude is at the moment!

Man down, Man down....

Looking great, they've got a nice classic sci-fi look to them.

Can you post that sketch? Because I can't see how a man fits in there. At the very least he'd have to cut off his feet at the ankle.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but these were not in any way influenced by GW Space Marines. In fact, Aaron and I both wanted to make a power armoured suit that was dissimilar to the GW product, because there's obviously lots of that available already. We looked at no GW sketches or products in making this.

They may appear to be "strangely proportioned," but they are designed to be heavy but not mega-bulky like sci-fantasy models. The limbs are longer but they don't have giant shoulder pads because there isn't any point to that other than to appear massive. If you look at a fullsize model of a GW space marine, if it exactly matches the 28mm models it does not appear plausible because it is not plausible. I have no problem with that, models are models after all, but wanted to provide an alternative.

Mongoose made a nice product for what it was, but their models were based on the movie and then a cartoon, and IMO the items did not resemble in any way the troops and weaponry of Heinlein's story. And I think the massive wide look, between those grizzly suits, the Terminators, etc, has been done to death.

It's in fact the opposite. The legs of the suit go much further down than the infantryman's legs go. Just look where the suit's torso armour goes, then the legs.

They're not bad looking. The main minus for me is that they seem a bit too generic... I'd ideally want some features to make them stand out a bit more.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Thanks balance. I actually wanted these to look businesslike, your basic power armour weapons system. To provide a contrast to the more characterful sci fantasy models.

I also left detail as sparse as possible rather than adding lots of doodads on them, under the assumption that the best weapon system is one that doesn't have lots of things hanging off of it. But also so that those who like to superdetail their models can have lots of space to do so without having to remove existing surface detail.

Cheers!
