Nanaimo, B.C. Canada eh !

Just wondering how to go about striping the paint from some pre painted figures I purchased off of EBay.
I'd like to repaint them myself as the paint job that they came with is pretty weak but I'd like to take them down to bare plastic and start fresh and not paint over what's already there.
Any help would be appreciated.

Simple Green is recommended as a fairly universal solution.

Acetone also works excellently for metals, but woe to he who tries to use it on plastic.

Seconded Simple Green. works wonders on plastic and metals. However it wont strip the primer from plastics

Hmmmm...
Some greasy, 1920's big band grind music, a brass pole, and a robe+wizard's hat would be a good start, methinks...

Oh, oven cleaner works well. Spray, wait, scrub.

SOS pads work well too. Just scrub away. I don't recommend doing this one for a lot of models though, you'll go through a lot of pads, and probably end up snapping your wrist off. Great for single models though.

I get so bored of this question.
The best way for any type of model (metal, plastic or resin) is to fry the paint off.
Put some cooking oil in a deep pan and heat until really hot.
Carefully put the models in to the oil one by one and leave for 45 minutes.
Presto. Clean models. Really simple and most people will have this gear in their kitchen!

There are other methods that will not ruin your models but they can only be found by SEARCHING THE FORUMS!!!!!

Maybe I should have checked the OP's post count before replying. In retrospect my comment does seem a little harsh.
@Garuss Acine: That is quite an incendiary post you have just made. I hope you feel ashamed of yourself. If you take the time
to read through the majority of my previous posts(including one in your titan stand in thread)I think you will find
that I have generally been a helpful, kind, constructive and supportive member of this community.

I think that I provided the best tip in this thread.
Teaching new members to search the forums is invaluable advice.
The topic of stripping has been covered in far greater depth elsewhere.
Sorry, but this lesson was learnt the hard way.

I read your posts whenever I see them.
With each sentence on a new line.
I get excited when I read them.
I always hope they will rhyme.

They never ever do that though.
I always feel let down.
I wish you would just rhyme sometime.
Stop, y'know, not rhyming and stuff...

unfortunately its NOT the best way when you trip and pour boiling oil all over yourself, which I have done not 2 hours ago from reading this, wouldn't have been so bad if my model hadn't melted and just to add insult to injury, stuck to my hand, (although the paint had stipped off so well I practically had a fully painted "skin") still, your detail was very vague, what temperature? or number on ovens? not that I personally hold you at fault for my own misfortune, but its a very reckless way of stripping paint. (need to buy another vlad von carstein now..)

P.S I joined soley to tell you this...but I like the discussions here so ima stay

Hiya Guys..

I just tried good 'ol DOT3 brake fluid and it works a treat! And it doesn't weaken any glue bonds that my be there so if you have a glued model you want stripped give it a try, just leave in over night and scrub off the paint with a tooth brush!

Cheers and Happy Hunting

This topic does seem to come up a lot. On the other hand, having an article to link to makes it pretty easy to help somebody out.

Somewhere.

For those of you in the UK, or anywhere else you can buy it, I recommend Fairy Power Sprey. I recently got hold of a large number of Space Marines for a very nice sum but it looked as though a lot had suffered the dreaded spill from a pot of pain and were so thickly coated as to be unusable. My local Games Workshop minions suggested this stuff and I gave it a whirl. After fours hours of soaking and a good scrub with a toothbrush the model looked new, bar one or two crannies where the stuff lingers a bit.
