Well, I'm on back on the greenskin-wagon. Admittedly I only played WHFB O&G, but Space Orks were always the 2nd or 3rd next army I was going to do since I started playing (obviouly that never quite worked over the years).
I've bagged a nice deal on 59 AOBR orks...
ATTACK OF THE PLUG!
...and I've just picked up another twenty from the local battle-o.
I've had this Nob I did in the gallery for a bit...

So obviously I should start to think about an army list. Let's shoot for 1000 points first, will we?

At 1000, it will smash.

Ya 6 Kans at 1000 seems to be optimal, since at 1k the Nob Bikers of Doomâ„¢ take too many points.
If you feel like a Shooty Army, heres what I suggest:
HQ:
Big Mek With KFF
Troops:
30 Shoota Boyz with one Big Shoota
30 Shoota Boyz with one Big Shoota
30 Shoota Boyz with one Big Shoota
3 Kans with Grotzookas, Grot Riggers and Armour Plates
3 Kans with Grotzookas, Grot Riggers and Armour Plates
1000 Points exactly.
The Boyz alone are pumping out 183 shots a turn, more than enough to kill anything they have a chance of wounding
Of Course if you wanted to go for Close Combat orks, you can always go for battlewagons.
At 1k points I envision something like this:

As a marine player i find dreadbash armies to be the most difficult to play against.
And i love the rhino-hatch as an ork shield, great conversion.

You can use footslogging slugga boyz, they are fearless in large mobs and there are a LOT of them. They are also T4, so they'll actually stand up to bolters and flamers reasonably well.

Having some sort of armour doesn't make a mech army alone. I'm a bit off the idea of cans now as well, after proxying reminded me of the issue with immobilisation. I guess having them within KFF range would be helpful, and I can clearly see how shoota boyz would be more advantageous... but the fact of the matter is that I have about seventy slugga boyz, and plans to fill a nother full squad of thirty. To those who play relevant lists, is kan immobilisation a big problem with the squads?

Ah I see. Well FootSloggers are fine too. With Mobs of 25-30, it takes serious firepower to bring them down tot he point where they can actually run, and even then 10 orks is 40 attacks on the charge. Throwing in a Mek with KFF on foot just makes things silly :p Only thing you have to consider is that you WILL take a lot of casualties, so a Bosspole is a must (to keep your boyz who have been pushed under 10 from running away too easily)
Kan immobilisation is not a problem because they cant be immobilised, they are destroyed instead because of the squadron rules  (on the upside, i just noticed you don't need the armour plates because Squadron vehicles downgrade shaken to stunned for free as the upside to being destroyed on an immobilisation result). Note that a SIngle Kan will revert back to the normal damage tables..
If you wanna go for a Nice Simple Footslogging Waaaagh!, at 100 points I recommend:
Big Mek with Cybork Body, KFF and Power Klaw
29 Boyz with Nob (Power Klaw and Bosspole)
29 Boyz with Nob (Power Klaw and Bosspole)
29 Boyz with Nob (Power Klaw and Bosspole)
29 Boyz with Nob (Power Klaw and Bosspole)
1000 Points Exactly.

As explained by Gwar Kan Immobilization is a non-issue because of squadron rules.
You have two options here if you are interested in a horde list featuring 90+ boyz:
1) Run Kans with a KFF screening your boyz. Everyone gets a 4+ save this way.
2) Run 'ard Boyz screening your other Boyz. Everyone gets a 4+ save this way. With this config you can choose a more interesting HQ Choice.
Orks without a 4+ save are a lousy way to play orks. So figure out how you want them to achieve that and go from there.

I can see why orks do so well. The massed PKs ensure that pretty much any unit stands a great chance of penetrating a tank on the charge. I think I'll stop at 90 boyz for now, and maybe go for some lootas or kommandos.
Lootas seem as though they'll be picked on badly in a slugga horde, and kommandos will be useful when I'm dealing with Tau. That's not an uncommon thing for me to have to do.

With the 'Ard boyz you don't need the Mek since they get a 4+ armor save and the Orks behind them will be in cover (screened by the 'Ard boyz). You can use a Warboss instead or say, Mad Dok GrotsNik (which give your 'Ard boyz FNP).
If you run a KFF I strongly recommend Kanz too. The KFF gives the Kanz 4+ cover saves (Vehicles in cover count as obscured and auto 4+ cover save). The Orks behind the Kans get 4+ cover naturally. You of course can spread the Kanz out 4" apart because of the size of their base. A squadron of 3 Kanz = 12" of room to screen the rest of your army.

i dont understand the hate for slugga boyz, they work absolutely great for me, shooting is the work of a grot, just ask the Goffs! With the kanz, grotzookas are grea but the waste the BS3 that the gretchen give the kanz, have 2 or 3 in the 6-9 but it is worth getting some rokkitz or big shootas footsloggin' is the go 'ere. And go for an interesting HQ, im sick of facing a KFF mek

Good thing for you I don't have any plans to visit Victoria. I can proxy any hq choice to my own satisfaction, and see how it goes. Otherwise, a 5+ cover save on the 'Ard Boys isn't too bad. I'll come up with a list soon... EDIT: Can't take more than one 'Ard Boyz squad. Bah.

Please critique the list above. The Kommandos may not be worth it without a Nob, so I might cut the basic Boyz squads down to 25 models or thereabouts to fit in another PK Nob.
The next 500 points would likely be a KFF Mek and as many kans as will fit.

Get your hands on something to make burnas for your commandos, they are pricey but flamers/ pw will do you a whole lotta good. Try to convert an ork for the special sergant upgrade as well. Lose the 'Ard boyz upgrade, as 100 models is definate more than enough of a pain to deal with in 1000 points. Lose the big shootas as well, for you will be running the whole game. The extra points will go towards the Kommandos getting max squuad size or pick up some gretchin and runtherders. Screen the entire army with the gretchin and blam! Choppa delivered.

At 1000 points 90 boyz is a lot. You could drop one of the units to 20 or just lose it entirely.
The Kommandos synergize nicely with the rest of the list. If you're only going to run a single unit of them you must use Snikrot. If you don't a bad deployment roll and you're on the wrong side of the table when you outflank.
The burna suggestion is also a good one. It's worth running at least 1 if you can spare the points.

I include the gretchins because you need an objective taking force and 30 choppy Orks with minimal range and movement simply costs too many points to do that role. Those Orks should be assaulting units on the other side of the table not camping an objective on yours. If you had Shoota boyz you could field a group of 20 and be effective with them in a role like this, but since you don't the grots are another cheap alternative. If you don't run an objective taking unit you risk not taking your own objective at the end of the game. That would be unfortunate.
I Like single Deffkoptas as outflank units in lists like these. It's sorely needed ranged tank kill and is a minimal point investment. You either blow up a tank with it and net 1-100 points, or they die horribly but your opponent has wasted a unit's round of shooting to take out 45 points, nevermind the 60 Boyz running at you about to assault, kill a helicopter instead.

OK, I'm going to pick up a couple boxes of gretchins, a box of kommandos and the loota/burna box... they're going to be burnas.  I've got one Deffkopta, and no snikrot, but for now I can make up the points in the list that Kevin Nash suggested by possibly fitting in another boyz squad (2x20)making them each smaller, but fitting in an extra nob), and maxing out burnas in the kommando squad. Thank everyone.

FYI Kommando burna's are a different model than regular burna boyz. They are metal models sold in blisters.
