I'm going to start an entirely new army by converting a tonne of Space Marines. And the cheapest way to go about doing this for me is to buy the Assault on Black Reach starter kit a few times. However, in doing so, i will be left over with an abundance of Orks, which is not an idea i am fond of as they are entirely worthless to me as an army.

I know that the AOBR models are basically fantastic compared to any other kit that GW has put out in the past. And i was just wondering if these tonnes of Orks that i will probably end up with will have any monetary or trade value? If anyone out there thinks i could get even $15 for each set of Orks, please let me know, as this is a major deciding factor in how i will decide to build my army.

Thanks, everyone.

the orks are selling pretty well on eBay, and while they've dropped a bit as the market has been flooded, you should still be able to get $20 or so for the Orks. I'm sure if you posted on the Swap shop, you'd have no problem finding takers. Heck, for $15 a set, I'd buy all the orks you've got.

The most cost-effective approach is to find someone who wants to start up a horde ork army, and split the boxes.

The thing is the SM are in such a higher demand than the orks, that your ork friend would be just as well off buying the ork half separately from a site such as the warstore, while you would not find nearly as good a deal there.

Yep.. if you decide to sell the set of Orks to help fund your addiction, you should be able to easily sell for $20.

Also, those additional rulebooks are worth some bucks as well. If you decide to go that route, send me a note, I can take one or 2 off your hands..

There will always be a demand for more orks, and I'm sure you would have no problem finding someone to purchase your orks be it a local player or on ebay.

Well, thank you all for all of your help. I will definitely, DEFINITELY buy two more AOBR starter kits and sell the rule books, dice, templates AND Orks! If i could get $50 for the two rule books, dice and templates, and then another $40ish dollars for the sets of Orks, i would have almost made my money back to cover the starter kits!

If you're selling, I'm buying. Of course, this talk is more for the trade forum, but I'm looking to get a nice Ork army on the cheap.

If all you want are the space marines, its not worth just the buy for that. Resale? I guess you can probibly get something for it or trade off the orks to other people of like mind.

check over E bay, or ask your local ork players.

Can't never have too many orks.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

The Space Marine bits at the War Store and eBay come out to more than the price of the entire kit on either site, unfortunately. While i would hate to have a bunch of Orks and extra rule books lying around if i couldn't sell them, i would hate even more to have spent more money than i needed to on just getting the space marines.

thats is 110 marines ( that includes i have ten force commanders now)
35 termines

There's nothing wrong with having an army of unpainted Orks and an army list lying around for when a friend comes over and says "That game looks cool! Can we try it?"

That's not that great actually. I just picked up a brand new AoBR box to split with a friend and it was $48 shipped. Though maybe if I was ordering some other stuff from there already it might be worth it.

I am in the fortunate position of wanting both the marines and orks from AoBR, so I'll be getting two copies for £28 each (down from £40) from either Wayland.com or 40KEmpire.com

I was informed in another thread that the AoBR miniatures aren't of the same quality as ones in the free standing boxes. The minis aren't as posable, and generally have fewer options.

However, since I plan to convert this isn't as big an issue.

It would be for me. The Marines are basically one-piece with the bolter separate and clung to the chest.

The lack of separate heads, arms and legs makes converting them much harder than it would be for the standard Tactical Squad box.
