FLGS Sponsored Tournament teams. Good for the hobby? Bad for it? Both?

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Sponsorship? Tournaments involving money?
Just look at the nonsense caused by Tournaments where all you really win is bragging rights. Introduce money and you're looking at a nightmare.

There is nothing to discuss yet.
Please explain your "Epiphany", because the only thing I'm seeing here is an open ended musing.
What are you asking, talking about here?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

When you have groups of friends that come together to form a club it's friendly competition.
When you have top players recruited for sponsorship who's ultimate goal is only to win... it's trouble in the making.

Id like to hear an in depth explanation from anyone who voted "bad for the hobby."
I expect lots of opinion from casual players who view tourney players as WAAC meatheads. Prove me wrong. Key phrase for this thread: "if you dont like it, don't join in."

I think it would be good. The FLGS will put the beat stick to any hygiene challenged, ill tempered, personality challenged types because it would give their store a bad name. At least that's what I would do if I had a store. If I sponsored a team and any of them acted as half assed as some of the tournament trolls I've met they would find their asses skidding across the parking lot.

As far as sponsorship being tied to winning, that's not always the point. When RedBull started sponsoring it's offroad team, the goal given to the drivers was not to win, but to make a spectacle. Open arguments during races, finger pointng and screaming. However, they were to become competitive over successive seasons, which they did.
All that being said, I am not advocating that model for a store. Acting like that at a tourney would have a poor effect on the store, I think.
I think this is a poor idea. Under rare/unique enough circumstances I think it would end up working for rat gak.
