Found couple rumours about Ogre Kindoms, which I didn't find here:

Was chatting with two of my good friends yesterday who also are ex staffers like myself and keep good contacts with current staff/managers and an interesting tidbit came up: Apparently after Skaven come out later on this year, Ogre Kingdoms are getting a book revamp HOWEVER it was said that they weren't getting any new models to go with the re-write, i find that hard to believe, but i do think that they may get a re-write like the Tau Empire book where they add maybe a new unit or two and then some more model options via direct sales.

Once again pinch of salt time, but this was the same guy who told me about the 40k baneblade, BFSP box contents and AOBR box contents months and months before they became common knowledge.

Well ogre kingdoms may be a way off but I have heard somthing. A area manager was in our local GW shop not so long ago and he loves ogeres, they are his nomber 1 "fun" army (no one uses them competativly) and he mentioned being at lunch with some of the design studeo and he tried to get some information about the ogre kingdoms and got a few ideas they were throwing around, nothing officail just ideas that they have for the next ed of the book. They are as follows.
1) Iron fists give an extra attack and a 6+ armour save.
2) Core choices will be cheaper by around 5 points.
3) Only need 3 ogres for a rank bonus so units of 6 will give you +1 combat rez. This rule didnt make it into last edition but was shown in the pictures (go look I'll wait)
4) Rinoxes will be charicter mounts. And they WANT to do them in plastic but what they want model wise isnt what they always get.

I hope this helps dont go off my word but this guy has not steered me in the wrong direction as of yet. About 90% of what he told me about WoC came true. And about 60% of lizards so you take this as you see fit.

Victory isn't important, but great mounds of bloody skulls. From your side, if not enemy's...

I really hope the change Ogres to 3 or even 4 models per rank. I was all set to start an OK armies with blocks of 12 to 15 Bulls then 7th ed came out and that army went right out the window. A better Iron fist would be nice too. I don't think they need a major re-write, just some adjustments. -K

Heard the same rumor myself, I think over at the Ogre Stronghold. Those 4 little changes are good 'uns, and really I don't think they need a total overhaul either. I quite enjoy playing my ogres, and I can draw or beat the new armies, just need to play better

Here's another change I'd like to see:

Army-wide Special Rule: All close combat attaks have the AP special rule (excluding gnoblars).

That only an ogre club used by itself gets AP never made sense to me - 2 clubs are still bigger than a man! And an ogre great weapon is longer than a horse, of course it should be AP!

You never rank ogres. Never.

In fact, if you hold the ogre army book up to the light, the last page has a hidden message: "Don't rank ogres."

Since I've never played Ogres or seen them played well, could you please elaborate? -K

I have to agree with never ranking ogres. However, if they changed the rule it would deffinately be worth trying. Ranks of three not four though. 4 makes the frontage to wide. I do also agree that they need a few changes. The book is pretty stagnent, with a few units that just arn't competitive. Namely, the scraplauncher and hunter.

Ranking ogres is a huge waste of points. It is better to run them in smaller units, so that you can outmaneuver your opponent. Use cheap units of bulls as bait/sacrifical units, so that your ironguts can get a combined charge in, or a flank charge.

Ranking ogres is too risky, with their less than great leadership, and is hard to move as well. It also opens you up to more charges. A block of 12 ogres could instead be split into 4 small units of 3 ogres, which would be much more effective, and gives you more flexibility. The loss of rank bonus and impact hit damage is balanced by the ability to out-maneuver the opponent and get them right where you need them.

Sorry Morhgoz, but I don't trust rumors if they are the first and only post from a new user

Any tactical advice that starts with "never" or "always" is always inherently wrong. I ran Maneater deathstar hundreds of times and it destroys everything on the charge. It totally stomps the power lists at my store like VC Wraith spam and magic heavy Empire.

What was the build on that deathstar, AG? And I've been running a mini-star of bulls + characters (anything but bulls would be better, but oh well) with enormous success, though now people just obsess about the 'star and my other lads can get busy

I do agree that the book feels stagnant, though in real life games ogre armies continue to impress me with their variation (read: many fantasy n00bs play them, hence take weird and 'unconventional' builds ). At the meta and tournament game levels though, yes. The Standardizer + 3 Butchers + MSU Guts = boring as hell.

On the scrappy, what needs to change? Simply the charge thing? When I think about any of the less-than-great units, I contemplate how I'd change them and find I wouldn't really - perhaps points drops, etc. Like yhets. I have 3, run them every game, love the models I converted ... but they continually fail me, and cost 195 points for 3 in the process. A good candidate for a points drop.

And on the hunter, I've just started playing with one, and enjoying him quite a bit. Yeah, he hasn't done too much, but I've gotten some really cheeky bolt shots in - BSB here, solo mage there, knight flank over there - which are feel good moments. Or would be if his shot weren't S5 or I could roll a 3+ to wound.

I used post in the old forum, many, many years ago and when it was closed I never created new account, until resent... Samething with Portent and Warseer. I been round, though, and reading this forum, but never had time make new account. Too many forums, nowadays, to visit...

As it goes to rumours, I picked them up from Warseer...

I must disagree in hunter, I usually use 2 of them, sometimes 3 and they work super to me. Only have they let me down once or twice and that was in time I did use single one...

Any opponent worth their salt will take their nice disposable units and throw them directly in front of the death star and force you to run in odd directions or angles.

If they have something hard hitting enough, then they'll Flank you to boot, and you auto-lose cause your deathstar is dead.

Or they just keep leading you around the table and kill your other units and win on VP's + table quarters.

Deathstars work when they are extremely maneuverable and most of the time project force. Shades work great for this (skirmish, shoot like hell, still good in combat) and VC Death Stars of GG or Black Knights (magical movement, extreme resilience).

Your unit will simply get led around, probably bogged down, or worse off you'll face something you DON'T want that can break you (read: Greater Demons).

funny, I was going to say I don't trust rumors from former staff that talk to other former staff that keep contacts with current staff. Being a former staff who is in the same boat, that's how alot of blogna gets spread around.

Ogres 5-pts cheaper and 3-wide per Rank bonus seems exactly right for better playability.

Plastic Rhinoxen will be awesome, and I look forward to seeing them.

Bumping Ironfists is distinctive and a good idea.

Plastic Rhinoxen would be really cool. It seems likely that GW would let you take many of them as with a lot of the new plastic kits, a herd of rhinoxen with some ogres would be a cool army to make.
