I am considering adding a Landraider to my army. There is the regular Landraider model as well as the Crusader/Redeemer. I understand the loadout differences, but wanted some input from you cats.

Overall I prefer the Crusader varient

1. It looks the best

2. hurricane bolters are "defensive weapons" so it has the most active firepower while mobile. and land raiders are transport assault vehicles, so being able to get move, fire, unload an assaulty unit, and assault in one turn is just incredible for 250 points.

Get the new kit and a fist full of magnets. Make it so you can field it as any variant. Why choose I say! I totally need to do that... hmmm... adds to list of projects.... dang you!

BTW I think you would need to get the Terminus pack as well to get the regular LR bits or the Razorback sprue at least.

Ahhh, yes I have a couple Rhino's that can be outfitted as Razorbacks/Predators/Vindicators. This works fantastic but was a a lot of xtra work. Great consideration though. Versatility is the name of the game...I mean besides Warhammer 40K.

I Second the Crusaider, but add in Chronos.

I love redeemers with extra armor and a multimelta. There is just something about pulling up and flamestorming two units of troops.

Chronus is a must have for the crusader at 2000+ point games. I would add a multi-melta, pintle mounted storm bolter and hunter killer missile as well... Might as well take full advantage.

I would go with the magnets. That is the greatest thing ever for changing between weps. Crusaider all the way. Word to the wise make sure you have the bolters as far to the front to get the extra range.

I'm still a fan of Chronus + Regular Land Raider. But then again, I tend to use my Land Raider as a "yoohoo! over here!" weapon as I sit back and dump out twin-linked BS 5 shots, splitting fire with lascannons going after a tank while the heavy bolter smacks some infantry. Put it somewhere where it'll get a cover save and keep it far enough back that you don't have to worry about melta weapons rolling 2d6 and you're gold. Make sure you keep a unit around to intercept any melta units that try to get close though.. Chronus makes it an expensive loss if your land raider goes boom

thats what i use my second land raider for, without the Chronus.

and loaded with a cheap scoring assault squad. (space wolf blood claws)

it scores, if it gets popped at close range the blood claws assault, if something deadly tries to get close i use the blood claws to intercept for the kill, or at least to tarpit.

I just got My crusader/redeemer today. Now someone mentioned placing the bolters to the front. Now are you referring to the hurricane bolters or the pintle mounted bolter on the top. I notice they have the Hurricanes mounted on the rear sponson, should I move these to the front or keep them in the rear?

For gameplay purposes, the Hurricanes should be mounted in the front position, in order to gain more reach.

But, from a modeling perspective, I like the looks of them in the rear position...so that is where mine are. Then again, I care more about the modeling part of the hobby.

I modeled my Land Raiders to have their Lascannons in the forward position. It just looks more aggressive. It also shortens the frontal dead zone.

It also means Marines aren't piling out the doors into a hail of bolter fire. Ergonomics, folks.

Yeah, I was going to bring that up. Come out BEHIND the guns...

My vote also goes to the Redeemer, Multi-Melta, Extra Armor. If you want an assault boat, I can think of none finer. The Crusader is great, too, you've got roughly the firepower of a Terminator Squad with a Assault Cannon on a vehicle delivering devestating assault charges. Except it's all twin-linked...

One thing to consider with the sponson placement is that if you have a squad over 6 models, you might run out of room to deploy them within 2" of the front assault ramp. If you have the doors up front and sponsons in back, they can unload around the sides and stay in coherency.

I'm not sure, but I think that's why the GW Crusader models all have the hurricane bolters in the back. The Redeemer variant can only carry 6 anyway, and you have to deploy them in base to base to unload them from the front ramp legally (within 2"). I've just started do this with 5 TH/SS and a Chaplain myself, and I have learned to make sure I don't pull up too close when going for a template attack, or it can seriously screw up the assault. If I had more than 6 models trying to come out, I'd loose two every time just to deployment.

Chaos Space Marine Landraider, with Daemonic Possession, and a Havoc Launcher. Sit back and go to work on enemy armour with Lascannons, enemy infantry with Heavy Bolters and Havoc missiles. Then leap forward and disgorge an assault unit to mop up the survivors.

well I guess being a renegade chapter I could go with the chaos landraider, however I want to maintain the tenets they hold dear and stick closer to the space marine stuff.
