Hey, I've been playing as Tyranids for a couple years now. It's been hard to afford the Warhammer 40K models (being a minor w/ no job), and I've really wanted to play a 1-man team Apocalypse battle, so I decided to put everything that I could on my limited Tyranid army, and the result was a SUPER-STRONG Tyranid army that worked unbevlievably well in normal 40K games and small-medium Apocolypse matches. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or modifications to my Tyranid army. Please keep in mind that I'm trying to add everything that I can on my limited amount of models.

The 3 'fex box set is a good idea, but scratch-building the biggest and most complex tyranid unit there is with my limited modelling skills... that's a no-go for me. But 3 more fex's would do any apocalypse army some good, thanks for the idea. Keep em coming!

how is this ultimate?

the most effective way ive need nids used is stealer shock mixed with nidzilla.
it causes havoc from the start.
people are faced with the choice that they can either focus on the fex's or stealers, both of which are a huge threat.
meaning one of which will get into CC quickly.
once in CC theres not really much stopping the stealers from running through every unit in your army.
same with the fex's unless you have power weapon spam.

i agree with JD21290. stealer shock is the most effective and killy way to bestow the horrific havoc to most armies. unless orks can rival them...

Some suggestions:

Hive Tyrant(1) - 246

What exactly do you expect to face with multiple wounds, multiple WS3 attacks, and I6 with this tyrant? Dump the biomorphs except for the Toxin Sacs and Bio-plasma, skip the venom cannon (terrible waste of what was a reasonable gun) and get scything talons and a Warp Field. As it stands this is 246 points of very large target that can be picked out at will. Independant Characters and Monstrous Creature do not mix well.

Broodlord(1) - 109

I7 is probably high enough. You're unlikely to face down Dark Eldar, so the chances of running into an I7 model is negligible.

Broodlord's Retinue, Genestealers(8) - 296

Dump the extended carapace and implant attack. The probability of engaging 2 wound models is terribly low.


Warriors(3) - 162

Your use of wound distribution is good, but the enhanced senses and increased WS can be safely shaved off. I might suggest spinefists over rending claws.


Lictors(3) - 240

I hate the Lictor as it stands. I'd rather have more genestealers.

Genestealers(7) - 231
Genestealers(6) - 222

Implant Attack isn't worth the points, and Feeder Tendrils are better than Acid Maw. Save the points for more Genestealers.


Gaunts(10) - 110
Gaunts(8) - 88
Hormogaunts(8) - 128

Biomorphs just don't really help here. Quantity over quality is sadly the name of this game. Your Hormagaunts were as expensive as Space marines...that won't do.

You're kidding, right? Flesh Hooks, and Spinefists at the most. These should be thrown at the enemy and if any come back its a bonus. Enhancing them isn't likely to net any results.

Carnifex are for shooting or for melee. Don't mix them up. Thornback no longer does anything.

Apocalypse is really a game of "Pick that stuff up" with all the huge templates and high S weapons. Bringing more stuff is better than bringing a little high quality stuff. Planning an Apocalypse game is more of "How do I bring all of my toys?" for Tyranids. So if this is all you have, and you're dead set on playing apocalypse, don't be terribly surprised if you end up losing consistently. If you can crowbar a few more models in (like the rippers...how did you pull off 14 bases of rippers and not have enough for more troops?) do it. You don't need super-gaunts just gaunts.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I have a limited amount of models, by that i mean all the ones that i listed; Im maxing them out just so I can play apocolypse. Thanks for the point-reduction suggestions. Any tips for what models i should get next?

Unfortunately if he doesn't have the models for Apoc games there isn't much he can do but stretch his current force with upgrades. I didn't even know you could put enough stuff on a Carnifex to make him 300+ points...

But like everyone is saying, save up some cash and get your mitts on some more Carnifexes. This will help your Apoc list, but more importantly you can use them in regular games. I would consider magnetizing the appendages though, since they are so expensive you may want to have a little variety.

If you don't have enough models for Apoc I would suggest you just stick to normal games instead. And, along with 3 Carnies, grab a battleforce or just some Genestealers, as both of those guys are not only good but cost lots of points. And, the best Apoc 'Nid lists are filled with 'Stealers and TMC's (Fexes mostly).

ok first off oldgrule the venom cannon is awsome ok the point isnt to kill the vehicle it's to stun it and then kick it over with your fexs.

on the other hand you need to go to auxellion on youtube and whatch his vids they help a TON and hes got awsome ideas for you list.

unless you play gys in apoc with alot of titans i wouldent make a heiro thingy

get gun beast (a carn with a venom cannon, barbe strangler and enhanced sences) on your tyrant get a dakka tyrant (tyrant with two twin linked devoures and 2 tyrant gaurd enhanced sences and carapace) town down the stealers and get more of them, (i like to have like 52 stealers all with feeder tendreils and scutlers, btw WTH!!!!!! your 'lord need tendreils not implant!!!!!! hello!!! re roll misses!!!!!!! and it spread ot 2" then all yor stealers re roll hits and wounds!!!!!!1
