Hi all.

I was just pondering what is the most popular game turn mechanic,( other than IGO/UGO ) of my fellow Dakka-ites.

Do you prefer, 'Alternating unit activation'.
Player A takes all actions with ONE unit ,
Player B takes all actions with ONE unit,

Or
'Interleaved singular actions' .
Player A takes ONE action with all units.
Player B takes ONE action with all units.

Or
'Variable bound game turn'.
Player A keeps taking actions unitll all thier units have performs maximum actions per turn, OR Player A fails to perform an action. (Fails a an action roll)
Player B keeps taking actions unitll all thier units have performs maximum actions per turn, OR Player B fails to perform an action.

Happy Gaming ,
Lanrak.

I prefer the alternating unit approach that Epic uses.

But it's not on your poll.

I am not sure if this was a game store rule, or actual rulebook rule in old Epic 40k; but I always liked the secret deployment idea. IE you can't see my half of the board and vice versa until the game starts. I always felt it was incredibly lame to be able to set up in such a way that you can directly counter your opponent.

That is like getting to set up a chess game in any fashion you choose.

A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

It is balanced out by the fact that you get to go first and get a turn to reposition your forces. Of course if you get the initative seized on you, good luck.

In board games like diplomacy, all the players write down what they're going to do in their next turn (eg all their commands) and then take their turns one by one. It makes for an interesting way of playing, but you still have to wait for the person before you to take their turn before you take yours.

I don't think it would translate to warhammer just as well, there are too many commands!

Why is there no option for "move all units around the table in real time"? It's just like playing Army Men back in the day.

Today I didn't even have to use my hot-shot las; I gotta say it was a good day.

Can someone actually give a quick summary of the epic movement system? Every time this is discussed, someone says

People in general wrote:I sure like the way the epic system works. That's way better than just IgoUgo. Yes siree bob.

but I don't know how it works, never having actually played epic. I think it would be handy if someone explained that quickly, if that's possible.

"This is TOO expensive." "I'm going TO the store, TO get some stuff."
"That is THEIR stuff." "THEY'RE crappy converters."
"I put it over THERE." "I'll go to the store THEN."
"He knows better THAN that." "This is NEW." "Most players KNEW that."

The eye of terror.

While I think "I go, you go" works well enough, I think that option C is a horrible, terrible way to play the game, and should not even be thought of. Any time one player could potentially act with all of his army while his opponent could potentially act with only one of his units would just create frustration.

I think the AT-43 style would be good, select the order of units you wish to activate, then alternate sides until all units are activated.

Although there would need to be a balancing factor when one side has many more squads than the other.
