Hey look. I spend a lot of time reading Daaka, but never actually signed up. Now a good reason.

Depending if you are going to be in during the weekend as well, you can stop buy for a 40k Tournament at Parker Banner Kent and Wayne my group is running. http://www.assaultphase.com/assaultphase/?p=363

Parker Banner Kent and Wayne are in Cornelius about less than 30 minutes north. I find they have the most Warhammer stuff than any store in the area. They are also a large comic store. They have Flames of War and some other games but no real historical stuff. Every Saturday night there's folks playing Warhammer 40K. During the week there's a smattering of people there either playing GW stuff or Magic. http://www.pbkwcomics.com

Closest to your location is probably Underground Games. They have a much smaller supply of Warhammer, but also have historical stuff and a Historical event next weekend. I've gone there a few times, too far south for me. http://www.undergroundgamesofcharlotte.com/

If you are only here during the week, but not the weekend, probably better to stick with Underground. If you head either North or South on I77 after 4:30pm on a weekday from Charlotte it will take forever to get out as 4 lanes get squeezed into two. If you will be in on the weekend or in and out of Charlotte NOT during rush hour, I'd suggest the store in Cornelius. But I live nearer there so I'm biased.

Looks like underground will be the closest. So I may stop in sometime during the week. But PBKW is actually closer to where I live (VA). So I may be able to make some tourneys. It's still a 2 hour drive but I've driven that far for tourneys before.

PBWK is one of the coolest most friendly FLGS I have been to. Infact I would recommend it on all acounts. The only complaint is that it is a bit small, but that is understandable. Other than that their tournaments are top notch and the owner is really easy to work with.

if looking at charlotte for LGS's, be warned that the Underground no longer is around

Today at Parker Banner Kent and Wayne there's a couple goes holding some pick up 40K games and workshops. Stop on by. I'll be at the race track tailgating, but there's still going to be plenty there.

Hey this sounds super cool and useful for a new player like myself. Can you update this thread if they ever decided on doing this again?

This Saturday we are doing a all day 40K drop in. Not quite an apocalypse game, and not using apoc rule. The premise is we are going to put a few tables together for a large scale team battle. But you can come and go as you please! So if all you have is 500 points and an hour, you can drop in play them like reserves and see what you can kill. This is probably good for begginers too by teaming up with some people. Again it's at Parker Banner Kent Wayne in Cornelius.

Just moved down to Charlotte a couple weeks ago. I dunno if anybody still looks at this thread but I thought I'd post on here to announce myself. I'm down for games anytime, although I've only got like two squads painted now. Just returned to the hobby after 6 or 7 years off.

Playing Space Marine demo while GF was scrapbooking:
Me: I can turn it down, if the screams of dying orks are annoying you.
Her: That's ok, I love hearing the screams of dying orks.

My armies (W-D-L):
2,000 (about 1,200 painted and now I'm feeling the call of Russ) 3-4-3
2,000 (about 1,000 painted, WiP) 0-1

Welcome to Charlotte and back into the fold. Haven't personally played it lately, but have at least my army still fairly intact.

So, do you guys usually play at Parker, Banner, Kent, and Wayne? The owner says that people usually play 40k on saturdays and that there are tournaments on the last saturday of every month. Is that true?
Or are there other stores in the area? It's so sad that the Concord Mills gw store went away

I should update here more often. Last tournament of the year this weekend. http://www.assaultphase.com/assaultphase/?m=20091205

We are actually going to end up with more prize support since the Nov and Dec tournaments are combined into this month.

I'm gonna be there. Got this Saturday off from work and am getting enough SWs together to give it a go (seeing as my Eldar got tabled last game I played).

Could you define "More prize support?"

I saw $5 entry fees, and $15+50% of the prize pool for first, $10+35% for second, $5+15% for 3rd. Is that not your normal prize support? What's different? How many people usually show up?

Call me greedy, but I don't want to spend 7 hours on the road and 9 hours gaming on a Saturday in hopes of winning a $35 box of little unassembled plastic guys, the value of which wouldn't make up the gas spent driving there. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'm going to win everything everywhere, but having a worthy goal to strive for and fail to reach is better than reaching the top and not getting much.

Oops! *steps off the soap box*

Hi Dashofpepper. Wow 7 hours is a lot of driving. Especially if you intend to be there before it starts at 10:30am. Unless you are counting both ways. But still... I'm not sure I'd drive that for any typical saturday tournament to be honest. But would love to meet you if you did.

Brief run down on our tournaments we hold once a month. Assault Phase is a GW registered club and the store we run it at (Parker Banner Kent and Wayne) is a partner level store (just in the past month became partner level). So GW provides prize support monthly which the store hands out in store credit. Previously it was quarterly. I'm not sure how this will affect next years prizes. It's a cheap $5 to play because the scene wasn't very big when we started and we were looking to get people timid about tournaments to come in and play. I'm tiny bit of hard core myself (Already booked for Adepticon, and I'm considering BoLScon this year). The skill of the average player at our tournament has less experience though. The store itself can comfortably fit 8 or 9 tables. Squeeze in a 10th if needed. Hell we ran a table outside once due to capacity.

To give an example of how much the prize has been.... Nov 7th we had 14 players. 1st place took $50, 2nd place took $35, and 3rd took $15. In Oct we changed the schedule because of Halloween, to the 1st Saturday of the month. This basically caused us to skip a month. So two months are going into this tournament. Again, most of it depends on how many actually show to the tournament. And we are probably going to do something different and skim a little for 4th or biggest loser. But basically prize support is doubled.

If your coming down, make some coffee and download 40K Radio for the drive. My name is DC if you have any other questions or if your coming you can ask for me.

My wife made me stay home. :(

Not 7 hours each way, but 3.5 hours each way for a total of 7 hours. I hope you had a great tournament and sorry that the pink Waaaugh! was not in attendance.
