I've been trying to do a bit of spring cleaning lately and made the mistake of trying to go through and organize my hobby room. I have a ton of stuff from armies I thought I would build but never got around to doing. Now I'm not strapped for cash or anything but I am getting married in the fall so I'm thinking about trying to reduce my hobby footprint if you will. I don't ebay much, actually I don't think I've ever bought anything off of there, but is there still a market for some of the older oop stuff?

I'm sure a lot of it depends on the models, some of the stuff I've got laying around would be a lot of oop chaos stuff, rhinos, raptor's, terminators, a lot of it still in the box or near mint condition. Tallarn roughriders, old special characters (the old enemies of the imperium type things). Old chaos dreadnaughts, imperial dreadnaughts. Just to give a rough idea.

I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth my time to go through and try to set up the whole ebay thing and sell them off or if I should just leave the stuff on the shelf.

Better to offload stuff still in the box? Maybe stuff that's been opened but still on the sprue?

Just looking for any friendly advice people might have!

Think you'll definitely find buyers, especially if it's still in the box. Can't comment on how much you'll get though. Good luck and remember Proof of Postage! I got burnt recently by somebody claiming his purchase never arrived.

Somewhere in south-central England.

I sold a load of old GW figures including Squats, Bloodbowl and Judge Dredd.

It all went for decent prices -- nothing was a major money earner but it was worth putting the stuff on eBay.

If the stuff is still MIB it should sell better like that than if you open it. Still on sprue should sell better than clipped off, and so on.

The amount you actually get depends on the luck of timing and demand.

It's worth searching for other OOP type auctions. The way I sold my JD stuff was I found an auction of similar content which had just closed, and priced my items a bit below the closing price on Buy It Now, then contacted the losing bidder of the earlier auction. He bought the collection in a few minutes.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Plastics are fine to sell off as sprues.
Metals you'll want to sell in the box as much as possible, since people are wary of re-casters.

The other thing to keep in mind is that if there is a current edition model available, you won't have a very large market of potential buyers unless it is a really rare or well sculpted model, and even then, it all depends.

Right - while some folks (like myself) like the OOP SM Librarians, you're not going to get nearly as much money for them as GW wants to charge for the new ones. OOP IG Sentinels are another example - ugly models. Some people really like them and may pay decent money - or you may have a hard time selling them. And for that matter while folks will pay decent money for old crab-claw metal Daemonettes, they'll pay a whole lot better money for 3rd Ed metal Daemonettes. It really depends on the sculpt and what's readily available.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

My friend sold his Space Crusade manual for $200 (AUD). Is it really worth that much?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

What you'll get for OOP models depends on the model. Some models/kits/sets sell better than others.

Rhinos, for example, I wouldn't expect to go for very much.

I would suggest that, before hitting up Feebay, you try unloading some of it on dakka, bartertown and even http://www.games2trains.com/ . Games 2 trains is a (nearly) free Hobby Auction site.

OOP does tend to get good money depending on what it is, best off watching a similar item on ebay and see what it goes for 1st.
and remember as allways, recorded delivery

I agree with some of the others. Watch a similar item on ebay and set your pricing from there. Last year I sold used and abused Warhammer Quest for $90, so OPP items can bring in some dough.
Another note, I like bartertown but have not been impressed by games2trains, although I was mainly active on that site when it first started and there was very little traffic at that time.
Good luck and if selling on ebay do everything that you can to protect yourself (delivery confirmation with signatures and make sure the buyer has a goodly amount of positive feedback.)

You're right... G2T has little traffic... but it DOES have traffic... and the more we support it, the more traffic it will see.
Besides, it's free within it's stated limitations. The OP isn't in a HURRY to sell off this stuff. Why not try the free routes first? KWIM?

I've been doing some looking around on ebay, don't know if I should be able to charge more if it's still in the box. FOr instance i've seen the old rhino's go for anywhere between 5-15 or so, but all of them have been put together already, so I figure I could probably go 10-15 and have it sell.

I haven't seen a box of the old csm raptors go up, or any tallarn rough riders. Old csm raptors I don't think would be worth all that much but I seem to remember people looking hard for the rough riders (especially since they are now 12 bucks a piece if you direct order them).

I looked into bartertown but didn't really see anything to endear me to the site. I'll have to give the g2t site a peek never heard of that one before.

I paid almost $100 for the old Emperor champion on ebay, the one holding the sword with both hands. Really like that miniature.

Sell stuff in box, is better that way, because condition and contents are more likely to be "correct".

If you don't want to sell, just trade, Bartertown isn't bad for common / basic stuff.

Bartertown has a voracious trading community. The amount of buying and selling that goes on there is pretty substantial, as well.

The built in reference system helps you to get an idea of how well established the person you're trading with is (each positive ref = 2 points, so someone with a 200 rating has successfully completed at least 100 trades).

The last time we did the math on it, which -granted- was a couple years ago, it was determined that, in the year prior, more GW product was purchased (including trades) through our site than through Feebay. I wasn't staff at the time, so I don't know where the Admin got Feebay's numbers for it, but we are able to cull that information from our own records.

FWIW.

It's not that I think it's a bad site. I have a couple of friends that use it a lot. Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've seen when I go look around people trying to sell stuff don't do as well as those looking to trade and fortunately/unfortunately there just isn't that much stuff that I need or want.

Nope. You're exactly right. You will have a far easier time trading there than selling. There's no arguing that point.

Still, though... If you aren't in a hurry to get rid of them, it's a better shot than Feebay. People DO buy on BTown, and there are no fees.
