hi, is the battleforce a good place to start off for cadians? obviously theres not much point buying the codex with the new one around the corner.
Is there anything in the battleforce that will be getting new models? all iv seen so far are the new command squad/sentinel(the stuff on adv orders on GW).
thanks alot, sorry if this is in the wrong section MODs please move if it is.

Yes. Even in the new Codex, you'll be able to find a use for Guardsmen, Heavy Weapons, and Leman Russes.
No, nothing in the Battleforce is getting new models...
In fact, I think only Ratlings are getting new models. Sentinels and Leman Russes are getting new variants, but that's about it. Oh, and the Command Squad.

Uh, the new Sentinel variant are on a new model even if it doesn't look significantly different from the current Sentinel model.

I'd get two of the current Battleforces. It's enough to make quite a bit out of, and it's better value than the new one. Then once the new Battleforce hits, buy that and a couple of extra Sentinels.
Now you've got 60 Guardsmen, a Command Squad, 3 Sentinels, 2 Russes and 9 Heavy Weapon teams.
With all the Guardsmen you have you can build quite a few Officers from the Command Squad, and stretch out the Heavy Weapon boxes to give you up to 27 weapon teams. The only thing you won't have are Plasma Guns, Meltaguns and big bases for the HW teams.

That's how I started my Guard army back when. It's a great value. You even get some free ruins in the deal to hide your HW squads in.

And if you get discount on the Battlforce (I got 25% off), then that is the most savings ever possible. It also depends on if you are aiming for a FOC (under 2000 points) army or an Apocalypse (over 3000 points) army... then, more boxes is better and overall cheaper. If FOC, I'd agree with H.B.M.C. If Apocalypse, I'd start with 3 boxes, for the instant Squadron of LR. Mik

Yes, in a perfect world, were I starting a Guard army, I'd pick up three current BattleForces + 1 extra box of 3 HW Teams, and then when they came out, pick up 2 new BattleForces + an extra Sentinel.
That's a big army right there. Hell I'd probably get 1 or 2 Catachan Command Squads just for the bits and to make interesting H-Vets. But look into getting current BattleForces now before they vanish.
'Course I don't need any more infantry, so I'll just be picking up 2 of each new Command Squads to make some nice unique Cadians and some Necromunda guys.

In the cadian battleforce I got 3 HW teams, 20 guys, 1 LRBT, and a ruin set.
In the catachan set I saw, they had 3 sentinels, 1 LRBT, and 20 guys. Along with some trees.

So basically the new battle force ,
they took out the LR, and replace it with 1 sentinel
and 1 command squad?

Er?
Wait, i sort of dont see whats wrong with that.
It fills 1 complete platoon section with 1 extra sentinel.
You save $20 with current combo $110 -> $90
You save $30 with the upcoming battle force $120 -> $90

Yes, but in terms of play the LRBT is a better weapon than infantry or sentinels. Tanks are about the only good thing about IG, so removing the tank is like kicking the fluff in the nards.
Saw the old battleforce for $67.50 recently.

Off topic, i wonder what they do with the old items when new one comes out.
Do they give it to their staff for cheap / auction them off in nstore / take each boxes apart and re package with new contents?

Probably repackage what they have in GW or partner stores. Independent retailers probably cut prices.
Also, the older battleforce came with a ruin set. It only made a corner, but it was still nice terrain to have. I can only imagine that the ruins cost 15-20 dollars.

Independent retailers rule!! I've picked up cypher models and older asurmen models as well. They have old catachan sets with trees and 1 or 2 of the ruin-including battleforces left.
They also got some older demolisher models in recently. No older infantry sets though.
