I'm an Ork player, and I'm about to start my first Imperial Guard Army. The fluff of it is as a rebel force from the Imperium, and such.

In any case, I wanted the army to be very infantry-heavy. I would really appreciate some help from people who know the imperial guard better than I do.

Thanks!

You should buy guys now, but don't play until the new 'dex comes out. Basically, my advice would be wait for the new codex .

Hello Guardsmen, look at your Leman, now back to mine, now back to your Leman, now back to mine. Sadly, your Leman isn't mine, but if they stopped using standard engines and switched to Lucifer Pattern, they could move like they're mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? Your in a battlefield with the Rhino your Leman could move like. Whats in your hand, back at me, I have it, it's the fire control for the Twin-linked Assault Cannons aimed at you. Look again, it's a Deep-Striked Land-Raider. Anything is possible when your Tanks move like Blood Angels, and not like Guardsmen. I'm on a Baneblade.

I 2nd, the buy now remark. GW will be doing away with the 20 man box sets so load up now to max out on bodies.

3rding the "buy troops now". $35 for 20 troops now, or $22 for 10 when the new boxes hit, it's a no brainer. Other than that I would wait till we see the new book to come up with an army list.

If you are going to go infantry heavy, then honestly buy at the *least* five boxes of infantry right now. That will give you 100 bodies. Then get one or two boxes of HW, and buy a bunch extra large bases. You can make all 15 HW teams from one box, so I would at least make 6 autocannon, lascannon, heavy bolter teams.

After than, either buy more troops or buy some vehicles.

Your basic Leman Russ (probably with hull HB and no sponsons) is looking like it will be a solid choice. You could buy 2 or 3 of them and it would be a safe purchase.

That should hold you over till the new codex

Hi everyone - I'm new on here and I'm just finding my feet so bear with me.

I'm an IG player and eagerly awaiting the new codex. All the advice above is solid but why not go for the Battleforce boxes - they are a better buy for the combination of troops, HW teams and LRBT's.

Plus, there's still a bunch of webstores selling them at 25% off GW retail price (at least, there are in the UK).

I have two imaginary friends. The only trouble is, they don't invite me to join in their games.

If you are going to play guard then you have to have a lot of infantry. i would also suggest getting three hell hounds since there will be squads of three in the new codex and also get leman russes, or domolishers either one is pretty fething powerfull.

Sleep now in my Bolter Fire.

Hellhounds are definitely good but if the stuff in the IG rumours is accurate, then HH's may not be such a good thing.

Could be better to wait on this one...?

I agree with the "buy now statements".
Buy a few boxes now before the prices go up and wait it out.
Don't bother much with tanks unless you are planning to max them out.
Plus a new LRBT kit will come out with every variant soo...

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

3 current Battleforces now, before they go away, and then 2-3 new Battleforces when they get released. You will have:

10-15 'Command Squad' Infantry
100-120 Guardsmen
15-18 HW Teams
3 Leman Russes
2-3 Sentinels

That's more than enough to do anything with and you can easily make up to 60-72 weapon teams (depending on how creative you are) out of the 15 teams you'll get. I'm not kidding - each box of 3 HW teams makes 6 teams easily, 9 teams with a little creativity, and 12 teams if you use the Missile Launchers on regular standing/kneeling guys. The only things you'll need on top of all that are extra 60mm bases for HW teams, and special weapons.

But if you don't want to go the Battleforce route, get some 20-man boxes today before they go away. The 10-box is such a fething rip-off (half the contents for 2/3rds the price!).
