A couple of weeks ago there were several topics started on the merits of comp scoring etc. Lots of people didn't like the idea of the comp system because of potential bias, any changes making the game "not warhammer" etc.
I stated my reasons why I think comp scoring should be used. One major factor was that it tries to get people to bring a variety of armies. So after paying good money, you don't end up with 6 games all against Daemons. Boring.

So what do people think about having No Composition, but for the first game of the tournament players are matched up with the same army race? Or matched up in the same 'army bands', eg for fantasy put VC, Daemons and DE in Band 1 etc etc. State this would occur in the rules pack so players know beforehand.

My thought is that this would pacify all those who hate current comp systems, not penalise players who only have one army, but maybe get those players who think they are hot stuff with several armies to bring some variety.

I assume the idea is not original. Anyone know tournaments that have done this? How did it go?
Obviously a problem might occur with odd numbers of players. How would you solve this?

FWIW, this is already done in many tournaments, sometimes for the first round only, otherwise as tiebreakers in matching people with the same battle records.

As far as "no comp" goes, it's a pretty good compromise so that people play the sorts of armies that they geared up (or down) for.
