For someone with blood bowl experience - how are the ogres balanced compared to the smaller based teams? I havent played BB once, so I have no idea but I like hte ogre team models.
Any teams to stay away from?
Thanks!

Well everyone takes up the same space in Blood Bowl regardless of what type of base they're on. The current Living Rulebook actually says what teams are difficult to play at the end of the team section - Dark Elf, Skaven, Chaos and a few others.
I'd avoid playing Norse because everyone else'll hate you for it - GRR!!! My Whole Team is a Blitzer!

Ogres will be a tough team to play with, they all have bonehead and have to depend on snotlings to try and score, which is'nt the most reliable.
I think they'ed have trouble with faster teams, especially elves as you wont catch em and they're still stronger than the snotlings.
slower teams like orks and dwarves might be easier because you're bigger than them.
Hope that helps,
Mookie.

Can goblins be competitive in a league? I think they would be fun to play. But going into a league with Dwarfs and Elfs. I'm really just looking to score once or twice. If you know anything that would help me please do. Automatically Appended Next Post: Can goblins be competitive in a league? I think they would be fun to play. Yes goblins can be competitive, you just have play in an unorthodox style.
First always take a Chainsaw, and always take a Fanatic (ball and chain).
Also don't leave home without 2 trolls, and a goblin to tag along with each and shout directions.
next buy 4-5 rerolls and 6-9 fan factor, you need the re-rolls to do anything with the ball, and the fan factor will help build cash to keep up with the mounting casualties.
After that its all about injuring / fouling enough players in the first half to be able to stand the loss of your major weapons.

The best tactic with goblins is to keep a low teamrating so you al.ays get more inducements then your opponents which you can then use to buy additional bribes to keep your weaponguys from being sent home.
The ogres are a horrible team to play against as they obviously field 5-6 ogres. However they are also a pain to play with, as they have expensive rerolls, virtually no non-physical starting skills and very slow progression (as casualtys are more difficult to make then TD's).

I would encourage you to play some test games first before investing in something like an ogre team. They are definitely a Tier 3 team (along with vampires at the bottom of the barrel). This isn't to say that you can't win or have a ton of fun playing with them. Just that consistent results and frustration levels can be quite low and high respectively.

What would be the best skill that I would give a goblin? And, what skill would I give him if it's doubles. Also, what would I give my trolls when they advance?

you'd be surprised how useful skills like break tackle and stand firm are on a goblin.

For starters Ogre teams don't use goblins, they use grots.
Block would be one of the best skills to give a goblin...that or surehands if you want one to carry the ball for you. Dauntless is good, as are a couple of guard players for cage breaking.
I think you'd be surprised to find that break tackle does absolutely nothing for a goblin. Their agility is higher than their strength thus useless.
Standfirm is really questionable too. Much better skills are given at the top of this post. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry didn't see the trolls question on the end:
The trolls like guard to help get the gobbo's strength up with assists. Grab or standfirm are second third priorities.
Trolls need block on doubles as the highest priority.

Oh sorry meant strip ball, not break tackle my apologies, but I think stand firm is great on a gobbo. I always think making a goblin an unexpected nuisance is quite a good weapon, they are never gonna be dangerous in that sense.
Dauntless is a great shout.
Guess catch would be obvious, but getting agility 4 means you can bypass loads of skills via the chances of rolling 2+ for a lot of actions.
And these are just opinions, they are not orders for other people to find 'questionable'. I find certain people 'questionable' but we keep it to ourselves, right?

Yeah this is just friendly advice for newer players in taking 'useful' skill choices on their players.
Yeah stripball is a good choice.
I must still disagree with you about stand firm mattstone. You can take sidestep as a normal skill choice for the gobbo and would be giving up the chance to take block etc.

True I am thinking of those times when a gobbo is right up on the side, you send your lineman over thinking you just need a push or a dodge to send him in the crowd (presuming he has dodge, a must) of course it all goes curtains, you've wasted your blitz and the gobbo squeezes past, after you retaliate blitz (with blooming dauntless! ).
I guess another scenario could be the other way around, you use a gobbo as hindrance, claiming a zone, someone tries to push him out, but you still got the tackle zone. I mean this all true of most players, but with gobbo's you don't expect it, and if you can get a player to waste a blitz it could mean a TD! But obviously your a pro so you know how important that can be. Damn I love BB, everyone, I mean everyone (who plays) has their own branching of the traditions.
Beefy, you know this giving away....our different tactical opinions! aaargh!

LOL I like the use of the word broken. Elves really got a big leg up in LRB 5 and don't fear the death merchants as much as they used to in progressive play.
Sounds like you need a good nurgle coach in your league to "break" things up a bit by the sounds of it.
Beast of Nurgle with tentacles plus all the other Disturbing Presence on the team really hoses the elves.

Wah, I'm just working a beast for BB, using the old beast of nurgle, which was a pain to put together...got an ork hardboy bit for the numberplate...
Gonna get a nurgle team pure for the fun factor...
Does broken mean good? It seems as time goes by, the more detrimental the word is, the better it is.I'm just gonna end up saying chaos is crap one day, meaning it's amazing.
If you do then I agree, my high elf team (non-league) recently won a game against humies (arguably the best team) 3-1! I was so chuffed. No re-rolls, no such luxury with those costs, but it gave my game a real edge. We used deathzone cards too, was a rib tickler let me tell you. I spyed his ass... lol
I love AG 4 on every player, means everyone is pretty safe at grabbing the ball, and my play is pretty direct with them, not fun like a chaos dwarf team, but fun in an edgy way for me. (except the last turn, when I fouled with a couple assists )
Um...here we go...

Maybe a ball in one of the tentacles? I have been looking at it over the last couple hours and it will bend easy and the one on the far left is already quite curved.
