I have been thinking about getting into it and maybe being able to get my local GW to occasionally have a game or 2. What I would like to know is where can you find the rules? How I should start getting into it? And since I play IG, what would be a good Imperial Fleet Organization?

If you're going imperial, get the boxed set. 4 cruisers/battlecruisers. Model 1 as a battle cruiser, 3 as cruisers, pick up some escorts and you have a 1000 pt fleet....

But remember, the Light Cruiser and Escort fleet wins!

And never play anyone who owns twenty Hemlocks....

Seriously? The only thing I've seen that stands a chance against eldar/imperial Escort fleets is the nothing-but-slaughters Chaos fleet.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Imperial Escort fleets are laughable against fleets with heavy ordinance.

Eldar....you just gotta know how to fight them, they have their weaknesses, its a matter of exploiting them.

You can find of great BFG stuff in our webzine, here:

http://www.epic40k.co.uk/bfgmag/

As a rule, the best tactic is just to pick up a few plastic cruisers, dont glue in the weapon bays and play a few games pretending they are different ships. This will give you the chance to try a few things and see what works for you, before gluing in the bays and getting out the paints. Once you have a few games with cruisers, you can add escorts, heavier ships, etc, but the core if the game revolves around the cruisers.

If you like Imperials, I agree to start with a couple Cruisers - easy and simple to understand. Then you can add Escorts and other stuff.

FWIW, my Imperial & Chaos fleets are almost entirely plastic Cruisers, but my Eldar fleet will be heavy on Escorts.

you can make an all plastic chaos fleet work very well. the cruisers are all decent. the larger battleships are metal and are only needed in larger point games. chaos gets pricey quick when you mark your crew and stuff like that.

Okay... this is going off topic; but what are you actually talking about? Do you mean Torpedos? Because you'll never line up a proper torpedo salvo with Cruisers against a fleet that's faster and can make sharper turns than you. If you're discussing Bombers... well Eldar escorts essentially ignore them (2+ save from the Holos) and you get massed turrets with largish escort units (5+ turrets really hurts Bombers... unless you mix fighters to suppress... and then it's still less bombers).

I'm not trying to pick a fight; but I don't know what your argument is, just that you disagree. Also, are you playing with the Ordinance cap they introduced that your carriers can only control up to their total launch bays in Fighter/Bomber ordinance at any given time? This ended the practice of constantly pumping out Bombers while hiding behind planets.

Like I said; I'm not trying to pick a fight... but I've played a LOT of BFG and own all the fleets. With the exception of the All-Slaughter chaos fleet that is exceptionally maneuverable, can deal with holofields and outranges most other gun-batteries, I've yet to see a capitol ship heavy or mixed fleet from the basic rulebook that can compete with more maneuverable forces.

You know what though... this is OT... if you want to clarify Escorts Vs. Capitols... lets take it to a new thread.

I really wish I knew some people who play BFG around here :(

I have a fleet but no one to play against.

Oh well, I will just keep using them to fly my Cadians to battle...
