Another shooting based on panic and fear from a while back. I'd like this thread to stay away from the gun issue and on are some media outlets speading fear for the sake of ratings.

Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It's the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence."

He has a point sadly...The point is that he is resisting change, and I don't know if the change is going the right way or not.

I've heard a lot about this case. This is why media personalities need to be very careful about what they say. Bernard Goldberg has a history of making inflammatory remarks about those he has political differences with. Unfortunately, Goldberg's comments ended up fueling the rage of this psychopath. Here's a quote from wikipedia regarding the book 100 people who are screwing up America which was referenced in the note:

The book takes aim at "liberals [who are] snooty, snobby know-it-alls, who have gotten angrier and angrier in recent years and who think they're not only smarter, but also better, than everyone else, especially everyone else who lives in a 'red state' - a population they see as hopelessly dumb and pathetically religious"

Goldberg promotes a siege mentality which seriously worries me. Add to all this the mountains of inflammatory rhetoric coming from the fringes of the right-wing regarding President Obama and the Democratic Congress, and I seriously worry that some crazy piece of human trash may be driven to become the next Timothy McVeigh.

Also it sounds like this guy has a real, healthy respect for the democratic process.

Do people think that perhaps the way these things are covered in the media might have an affect here. I appreciate that you're going to have be fairly.. let's say.. unbalanced... to carry out these acts, but it does always strike me as odd how they seems to come in spates.

Just recently we've seen Sat 4 April: Father is suspected of shooting dead his five children, then himself, near Seattle
Sat 4 April: Gunman kills three policemen in Pittsburgh before being wounded and captured
Fri 3 April: Gunman kills 13 people at an immigration centre in Binghamton, New York state, then apparently shoots himself
Sun 29 March: Gunman kills seven elderly residents and a nurse at a nursing home in Carthage, North Carolina, then is shot and wounded himself
Sun 29 March: Man kills five relatives and himself in Santa Clara, California

In Wales there was a case where 17 kids all killed themselves in the space of a year or so. most distressingly of all it was suspected in certain cases as the victim wanted " a facebook memorial page".... .. what do you say to that ?

I'm not saying that the media coverage has to stop, but I think the way we look at these situations perhaps need looking at. From both ends of the political spectrum, I don't think a kneeejerk piece of legislation is any serious help either.

If it bleeds it leads. Whats not seen is how traffic fatalities in the US are at their lowest rate since the 1960s.

I do know of several churches that have officially or unofficially taken defensive steps. Churches and missions have been increasingly attacked in the last few years. Our church will not be a victim to a nutjob.
