Subject: Opinion on Snakebite Shoota Boys, and a few of my Cyboars

I have been wanting to (re)build an Ork army for some time now. This is one of the armies that I sold off over the years to fund travel. I've decided to go for a Snakebite army, as I don't tend to see many of them these days (not the mention my fantasy army has been collecting dust lately, and it gave me a small start to get me motivated). Thanks to the AdeptiCon bits swap, the ideas shuffling around in the back of my mind climbed aboard the high speed train to my work table (a ridiculously awesome deal on a green tide, some black ork metals and new fantasy boar boys, to be exact).
Anyway, I've begun to assemble a small force so that I can try out the army in some friendly games and want to get your lots opinion on some of the modeling. As I already have a few armies to play with, I'd like to put a bit of work into this one to distinguish it from the general FLGS orks that we all see a lot of. That is why I decided to pay homage to the good old days and tackle a Snakebite Clan. In addition to a mix of both 40k and fantasy kits, I've been looking back at the old rogue trader and 2nd edition fluff. The goals at the time being are that all (the majority) of the boys will have back banners and I will be using Cyboars in place of Warbikes. Eventually a herd of squiggoth will count-as trucks and battle wagons, but that's still a ways off.
Anyway, This post is to get opinions on a random thought I had while cleaning and assembling the first group of boys.
I originally thought that the goblin bows "welded" to the shootas would be a go way to show the Snakebites clinging to the old ways, but now I'm not positive. So, should I scrap the bows, continue with them, or just mix a few into the shoota mobs?
Thanks for the input.
also, here are a few shots of the first Cyboars I am working on...
they still need a good bit of work, exhaust pipes and guns, but what do you think?

definitely keep the bows, i love em.
the cyboars look cool, I would personaly make the front legs more like the spoke on a bike and put a front wheel, other than that those are another reason i'm jealous of ork players, I don't get to make cool stuff like you guys.

I agree with blessed about the front wheels, unless the boars wheelie when moving around.
But looks amazing, dude! And keep some bows, i like them! Don't think they'll pierce power-armor, but they look cool.

Haha, this is almost exactly what I'm doing with my Ork army XD I'm using lots of squigs to represent or provide motion for pretty much all of my vehicles, including warbikes, and I'm modeling my orks to look more wild and old-fashioned. We'll have to compare armies once we both get them done

Thanks for the opinions, I think I'll go for the mixed in look. It should help to break up the repetitiveness of the Shoota mobs.
As for the Cyboars, I was going for the old cyboar look. And while it would look interesting to do the bike covered in boar skin approach (by adding a front wheel), I think it would end up looking like "a bike covered in a boar skin". Hmm, might just have an idea for a transition to Speed Freaks army in the future.

Hah, not gonna believe that one, I took a look at your gallery. You've got some really nice conversions in there.
And keep some bows, i like them! Don't think they'll pierce power-armor, but they look cool.
You'd be surprised at how effective a bow can be when you remove the bowstring, cut it in half and weld it to the barrel of your shoota!
We'll have to compare armies once we both get them done
I look forward to it!

Alright, I got most of the work done on four more Nob Bikers. That brings the total up to six, including two with power klaws and a painboy.
I've been trying to figure out a good way to represent the dakkaguns. this is the best I have come up with so far. I can't tell if they seem a bit out of place on the boars, any ideas are more than welcome.
The army is shaping up pretty well, but with the new guard codex coming next week its probably going to be a while before I crack down and try to get these guys table ready. I spent last week blowing the dust off of my old psykers and priests and freshening up their paint. Looks like they are going to be seeing some table time real soon.
And sorry the photos are a bit fuzzy, I'll try to get better shots taken in the next few days.

Wow, very cool
For the guns, if you're going for a varied look like with the boyz, maybe you can put some in this (standard?) position, and some with, say, two on the same side (one on top of the other) or even over the shoulders of the rider, a la broadsides
Okay okay, I play tau, did I give myself away at the end there
Waaaaaaagh!!!

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to go for the all different look. I've completed one more, we will see what happens with the rest.
But for now, it's back on the shelf with these guys for a while. I've got under a week to dust off and touch up the old IG psykers, priests and commissars.
