I'm working on an Angmar army as you probably all realise by now. So far it only consists of 3 boxes of metal Army of the Dead and 1 box of plastic Army of the Dead plus the Witch King on foot and on Fell beast. Plan to add a lot more plastic AotD and, if I win the lottery, a couple of mounted AotD formations. Not sure about orc formations though...

I am helping my friend (and FLGS owner) finish off his armies. We painted a lot of Mordor orcs. I just finished three stands of Army of the Dead. Now he's finishing up the Isengard Uruks and I am working on his Knights of Dol Amroth. He had been collecting LotR armies, mainly Gondor & Isengard, since they first came out, and had a huge amount (although surprisingly, not quite enough for WotR). For helping, he gave me a lot of partly-painted plastic Rohirrim & High Elves that he got in trade a while back.

I had been working on an Angmar/Arnor force for LotR. Now I plan to make my main evil force the Misty Mountains (lots of cheap goblins, some wargs, and a good excuse to get a drake, dragon, and stone giant)! I will use Angmar as allies (ghosts, bat swarms, and barrow-wights).

My good army will be High Elves- can't wait for the new plastics this summer!- with Rohan as allies. My warriors & rangers of Arnor will likely get brought out occasionally as part of my friend's Gondor army.

In our area there are several LotR... collectors, I guess, is the right word, we never played all that often... who have Easterling armies and Dwarves. The new rules have sparked a lot of new interest, and now people seem to want to collect... hm, Easterlings and Dwarves. High Elves are running a close third, and I think Rohan/Isengard are tied for fourth. We'll have to see how long the enthusiasm lasts.

I'm doing a sort of Tour of Evil. I have a small Misty Mountains and Mordor force from the SBG (48 Goblins, 3 Cave Trolls, 8 Prowlers, Durbuz, 2 Goblin Captains and a Shaman with the Balrog. As for Mordor: The contents of the Cirith Ungol battleforce plus a taskmaster and drummer, the Witch King on Fell Beast, 24 Morannon Orcs and another Troll.).
I want to bulk these up to respectable size (1500 each?) and get a small force of Fallen realms + Mamuk and a small force of Angmar (luckily my Orcs can double job, and my warg riders can dismount and become Wild. The cheap army of the dead mean I will definitely have at least one full formation of ghostly infantry and probably a formation of the much more expensive cavalry. The cool ambushing Troll is a must, and maybe some Barrow Wights, Spectres and the big spirit monsters too.)

My friend collects Isengard, so I'll leave them alone. I'm also sorta interested in some Dwarves and maybe Rohan...I have sort of a problem when it comes to this game, you may have realised...

I collect high elves. Have about 1000 points including a converted tree beard. I don't follow news that much so I just found out that high elves are getting new plastics. Yes! Can someone tell me what they're adding. Pics would also be nice. Thanks.

Moria Goblins at moment. I just really liked the look of them in the movies and the plastics do them great justice.

3 cave trolls

Durburz, Goblin King

Druzhag, the Beastcaller

Goblins with shields (drums & captain)

Goblins with bows

Goblin Prowlers (drums, captain, shaman. Not using the metal figures as they don't really fit the feel of the plastics for me.
I'm instead converting my spear carrying plastic goblins by cutting off the spear tip and making axe/halbard/spikey blades
out of plasticard to attach to the remaining haft.)

Wild Wargs w/Chieftain

Buhrdur, Troll ally from Angmar list (A troll that's an Ambusher? Sign me up! Model is cool too.)

Not sure what I'll add from there. Will eventually do an elf force once the Galadhrim plastics come out.

Easterlings.

100% Pure Easterlings.

I've got Khamul The Easterling & 3 Boxes of Infantry so far, which is slightly annoying as the boxes contain 1 company of HW, 1 company or Archers, and 1/2 a company of pikemen. I plan to expand this out with Amdur, Lord of Blades and some Kataphrakts.

I just really hate the price for Kataphrakts...

Yeah, this is a real cheetos-or-caviar game. The miniatures are either dead cheap- most plastic infantry work out to about $1.04 US each- or jaw-droppingly expensive. $12 for a single pewter cavalry model? Really? The new metal command packs work out to $8.33 per figure. I mean, c'mon.

Well, I've been playing the SBG for a little now. I've been to the Gathering in the Desert LotR Indy GT in Phoenix the last two years, and I just played in this years adepticon. So I've had a really big collection of figures mostly evil men. Surprisingly, it doesn't necessarily translate to a lot in this game. Heres what I have:

Painted:
4 Co of Black Numenoreans
2 Co Easterling Archers
3 Co Easterlings Pikes
1 Co Mahud
1 Co Haradrim Warriors
1 Co Haradrim Bowmen
5 Co Easterling Kataphrakts
1 Mumak
3 Co Haradrim Raiders
1 Co Orc Trackers
1 Co Orc Warriors

Own/Built
9 Co Mahud Raiders
4 Co Mahud
6 Co Haradrim
6 Co Hardrim Bows
5 Co Khandish Cav
3 Co Khandish Warriors
2 Co Black Numenoreans
5 Co Morgul Knights
3 Co Orc Warriors
3 Co Orc Trackers
6 Khandish Chariots (1 King)
2 Fellbeasts
1 Dragon
3 Co Watchers of Karna
The Nine Abroad
Terror of Arnor

Coming on the way:
2 Mordor Siege Bows
2 Boxes of Morannon Orcs
1 Box of Easterlings
Amdur

I'll probably concentrate on making a Minas Morgul Army to start (Fallen Realms heavy with BN's and Mordor Allies).

Consider putting swordsmen in the front rank and pikes behind for a pike formation. WYSIWYG is a little relaxed, and most people I've talked to don't have a problem with this. With a 4th box, you could have 4 Co's of Pikes and 2 co's of HW/shield, plus 4 co's of archers.

Word, my brutha. Just painful to pay as much for the command as for the other 3 full companies combined. And, I'm actually just a skosh annoyed that the command models are signifcantly beefier than their plastic underlings. Of course it doesn't matter at table top distance. But I don't paint them at table top distance.

Yeah, I dig the Taskmaster miniature, but he's a lot taller than the other orcs in his formation. Perhaps he's just especially beefy.
Paying the same (or more) for full command hurts though, definitely. I'll probably start converting my Captains and bannerbearers. And my Goblin Drums, though that is mostly because the proper mini is attrocious.

Working on a Fortress of Isengard Force. Waiting to get the rest of my berzerkers and Sapper's Team. I also need an Isengard troll. After I have these minis I should have around 1000pts. I can't wait to have the berserkers in play. R2 with berserker abilities will be an awesome infantry company (even though they are restricted to one company I'm thinking they can match up with any other Infantry formation). Sappers will be another fun unit even though I will probably kill more of mine than theirs.

Trolls look like nice, solid choices for the forces of evil. I'm wondering if i will be able to remember their thrown weapons.

I've got around 250 pts of Gondor. I'm needing a lot more for them to be viable. I will probably run a couple of trebuchets and a bolt thrower. I will probably focus on a shooty list with lots of rangers and Men of Gondor with bows.

Down the road I will probably work on a Goblin army. None of the Good forces appeal to me at this point. Our group is building a lot of Rohan and Gondor forces so I will probably stick with Evil for now.

That's a good call. As someone who owns a lot of Far Harad, I can tell you that they're pretty bad in WotR (even though they're amazing in the SBG). It makes me sad, because I was excited to use them all in WotR.

I'm going the classic Gondor/Mordor route - I've gotten 6 stands of Warriors of Minas Tirith and 4 stands of Mordor Orcs done in the last week or so, so they're coming along well (even if my Gondorians are out-pointing my Orcs by about 2-1 right now), and I'm working on a Rohan army for my wife, who's a complete horse fanatic and, while she loves playing wargames, hates painting models with the passion of a thousand burning suns. Only 3 stands into the Rohirrim, though.

Slow going on my part...

I'm trying to put together both a Gondor and Mordor force.

So far I have painted -

Gondor:

WOMT with Shield - 4 Companies
+ Captain and banner bearer. (Need at least another box of these, probably 2!)

WOMT with Bow - 2 Companies

Faramir
Rangers of Gondor - 3 Companies

Boromir
KOMT - 3 companies + banner bearer

Mordor -

RW on fellbeast

Gothmog
Morannon orcs - 6 companies + captain and banner

Mordor orcs - 6 companies + captain and banner

Warg Riders - 6 companies

2 mordor trolls

I'm building a Mordor army, to be led by Sauron. Gonna be orks, trolls, and a stable of bad guys. I think I'm going to build a big unit of the Mordor black guard (the elite Uruk Hai guys). I'm not currently planning much of a stable of allies, but the ambushing troll is tempting, particularly in conjunction with a Mordor troll captain.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Well, I have finished a healthy part of my basic Misty Mountains list. Two companies of bat swarms, six companies of wargs, a cave troll, and Burdhur (who will usually be a cave troll). Seven companies of goblin archers, and 15 companies of goblins with shields. And Durburz the goblin king.

Still to go, I have taken almost all the spear-wielding goblins, trimmed the points off, and added axe blades, thus converting them to Prowlers. I have three companies of those awaiting paint. And one more unopened box of goblins, that somehow got misplaced in the original frenzy. But I need to take a break from goblins.

So I bought a box of wood elves. Got one company done, and am making progress on the rest. My Galadrhim arrived last Friday, and I spent the weekend assembling them- three boxes of infantry & two of cavalry (and a Stormcaller). I picked up Elladan & Elrohir yesterday, and found Arwen in with my unpainted Rohirrim. I have already finished three companies of High Elves with glaives & three with bows, and I have Legolas paintred from 'way back.

This morning I put in a couple of hours on the galadrhim horses. I have two just about finished, and then I will decide if I like the paint scheme. [Edit:] Finished the first four, the paint scheme is a go. My elves are going to be more Tolkeinesque than PeterJacksonMovie-esque- lots of grey and silver, with accents of dark blue or pale green. Silver armor & grey robes looks great on the High Elves, but the Galadrhim Knights need a bit more color (otherwise the riders kind of blend in with their horses), so they got silver armor, grey cloaks, and blue robes. It works.

I've started my Isengard army. They are led by Lurtz (cause he was such a good hero in Battle for Middle-Earth) and I have a strong emphasis on berzerkers and Uruks, with a couple dozen crossbows for ranged support.

Can Isengard take trolls and ringwraiths? I'm going purely by word of mouth at the moment.

What started out to be a angmar force quickly developed into a Misty mountain foce.

Going by the old MERPs angmar sourcebook, misty mountain more easily conveys what angmar is rather than a half hearted attempt at selling the remainder of models with no definite place to stick them *coughghosts*.

36 wargs, 1 dragon, 60 ghosts, 60 men of carn dum, 24 dunlendings later, I find I want to explore the goblin side of it....but I am now under the thrall of the Dwarves of Grey Mountain.

I have no idea why I am so smitten with them, but the dwarves unlike anywhere else in GW, actually not only look cool but play well. I guess they give me the itch to slam my head against an anvil to remind me of how tough I am after a day of playing with dollies.

Today in a test game, they cut through my opponent's Morannon Orcs like a hot knife through butter.

I need more of them.
