Couple weekends back I checked the local GW's hours on the main website. Said it opened at 10 am. I agreed to meet a new player there via e-mail and away I went.
I get there to find out that the place now opens at noon on Saturday---had no way to contact the other guy and we wound up missing each other when I finally left at 1230, after the store opened.
Flash forward to tonight. Same GW is supposed to close at 9 pm. I pull into the store lot at about 5 minutes till 8 to see that they've updated their paper door schedule to close at 8 pm. Door's already locked.
I get the recession and all but this is really starting to get annoying. Anybody else running into this?

Well, my local GW's hours just changed, but they made a big point about announcing it beforehand.

If those are the posted hours, calling ahead shouldn't be necessary. That's the POINT of posted hours...

I never trust websites; it's usually best to call in and talk to a person about things. I find that store websites are frequently not up-to-date, as it requires a fair bit of effort to do this, and there's usually not a dedicate person to do it.
It does suck that you get screwed twice, though.
(That's right, I don't even trust Dakka. I've only met a handful of you firsthand; the rest of you are strangers! )

Calling ahead? That's brilliant! After all, that's what I do for every other store visit I make. I'm forever calling Wal-Mart, the hardware store, and a passel of other places. I'll just add the GW number in that list and all is right with the world.
Whew. Now that's settled, anybody answered the rest of the essay question, the bit about if you're seeing this kind of random operation hours changes in your particular necks of the woods?

My local GW is in a mall, so they won't have magical hours... If they did, that would be rather strange. Having said that, I very rarely go in there anyways. BUT if I did go in there and it was closed (and the rest of the mall was open) I'd not only be confused, but rather annoyed. Unless of course it was for a good reason (ie when they had renovations).
/end rambling

Well, let them know. If they want business they're going to need consistency. He

The staff are aware. I waited for 2 hours outside (when net said open at 1000 and so did their door the last visit within a couple weeks) that one Saturday because I'd agreed to meet a new player. Internet discount is looking really good.

They change frequently at mine, I believe, but it's always on the sight.

Yes, it is happening.. hours are being cut back and unless they are in a mall that requires they open at a certain time and close at a certain time, it will change. Buying signs for the changes takes time (it's no excuse not to have them, but there you go) and Gw has a hard time updating their international website, let alone updating a local shop website.
if you go infrequently to these store and are too bothered to call ahead to see what their hours are, then you will have to deal with the "sudden changes" and I won't feel one bit sorry for you.. If you frequent the store often enough, or if you call ahead, you will be apprised of any time changes.. (do you ever notice that on holidays the times change? if so, do you still just show up whenever you want and get upset that it's closed early on a holiday or opened later ??)
I can't help you anymore than that.. I also can't sympathize or empathize with you.. The ball is in your court, run with it..

If a store in a mall opens later than the mall or closes earlier than the mall, the store gets a nice hefty fine. That happened quite a few times at my local GW store.. Let's just say the offending 'late comer' was first disciplined and then sacked.. Of course, it happened to 6 different people.. YOu'd think getting into work by 10am would be easy.. Guess not.. lol

Wow I didn't know that. GW is far too cheap to let that happen here anyways, and seem to only hire radical fanboys...

Holidays obviously weren't the reason. Interesting apples to oranges comparison. I took the ball to another LGS where GW gets less of that percentage. Fortunately, I didn't need your help, empathy or sympathy. I was just asking if other folks had similar experiences.
