I tend to play against Dwarfs and Empire alot. In a 2000 pt game I'm usually up against a long line of Organ Guns, Great Cannons, Hellfire Guns,Thunderers, Crossbowmen, etc which chews up my close combat oriented Daemon army before I can make it to the other side of the board. To be fair, I run a fun Daemon list (nothing too crazy, no Kairos the Fatewaever or anything broken like that). I can usually beat most close combat oriented armies, and I have a few resilient units like plaguebearers which can make it into combat mostly intact but without alot of shooting or a crazy magic heavy list it feels like I'm just limited to charging forward hoping enough of my army makes it into combat before kicking the bucket. Are there some alternate strategies I'm missing for taking on lots of shooting with a CC orient army?

A dwarf and an Empire gunline are entirely different animals. They need to be approached totally differently. Either could be the subject of a deep post.

In general, though, Khorne units and Slaanesh units are across the field in 2 turns. Just play those and they only have one or two turns to shoot you up.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I tend to piss off dwarf players by standing around all game and rushing into all the table quarters on the last turn for a +200 VP. Usually they wont move because they are waiting for you to get into firing range and by the time they figure out you wont do that it's too late. The only things that can hit you are cannons and bolts and they don't hurt all that much unless you have big things. This is what I do instead of refusing to play against a boring gun line. Sooner or later they change their tactics....and this doesn't work against Empire.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)

honestly, There isn't much you can do. I suggest loading up on Flesh Hounds, and Bloodcrushers. Get some flying units in there.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

slanesh blocks eat gunlines for breakfast.
if he goes first first turn minimal damage from >24 in
you move forward 12 in
he shoots and hurts stuff
you move forward
you force 4 units to charge your guys

I dunno, Cypher, I think both gunlines have stuff to counter that, Thorek for the dwarves, Stanks and Popemobile for the Empire.
