That's not entirely a bad thing. I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetic direction the Empire is taking, but I'll admit it looks very sharp.

There's something of a surplus on Empire characters, given there already were two captains and a warrior priest in the Collectors' range. Marius is a very nicely done sculpt, though.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Yes now that you mention it, there are probably more special character models than some armies have hero models. I can count 6 off the top of my head.

I really like both of those Empire models. I have been looking for a good foot captain, mine currently is from Mordheim.

And Marius is the coolest Elector Count so it's nice to see an awesome resculpt of him.

I dunno...

I wonder if these will be direct only? And, if Marius is an Elector, would someone kindly fill in my ignorant mind by telling me which province he rules? With those colours, I'm guessing Ostermark

He was the mad Elector Count of Averland.

Commonly known as the Mad Lord or Mad Count of Averland, Leitdorf was renown for his erratic behavior; falling into vicious rages one moment, only to suddenly turn catatonic and lock himself inside his room for days, refusing to talk to anyone; squandering his provinces' money on nonsencial military campaigns, hunting imaginary foes and generally upsetting his neighbours. The most wellknown of these inecsplicable incidents was the "suppresion" of the "Halfling Rebelion" in 2502. This act left Karl Franz, the reigning Emperor, with little choice but to reign the Mad Lord in. To this end he sent his champion, Ludwig Schwarzhelm, to Averland to convince the count of the consequenses if did not start behaving. Schwarzhelm was appearently succesful in his mission.

Despite his somewhat peculiar mindset, the count was a multifaceted man, being an accomplished poet and painter, as well as a skilled engineer and inventor, and his skills in swordplay were said to be matched only by Kurt Helborg, the Reiksmarshal of the Reiksguard. Whom of these were the most skilled was never to be put to the test, however.

Sometime after Schwarzhelm's visit, the Emperor recieved word from Leitdorf of and impending Greenskin Waaagh! coming down the Black Fire Pass; Karl Franz immediatly rode to the aid of Averlands army. It was during this battle that the Mad Lord of Averland would meet his end. After a long and heavy battle, the cound and his Greatswords found themselves surrounded by the Greenskin army, with the Elector Cound facing down the Orc Warlord himself. Despite being a very skilled swordsman, Leitdorf couldn't save himself from death at the hands (and Choppa) of Warlord Vorgaz Ironjaw. His death was not in vain, however, as it bought the Reiksguard, led by Emperor Karl Franz himself, enough time to reach the battlefield and charge the great horde in the rear, routing them from the battle and saving the Empire. Karl Franz, witnessing Leitdorfs death at the hands of Ironjaw, smashed the warlords head with Ghal Maraz in retribution for the Elector Counts death.

Since this day, Leitdorf has been, despite his many transgressions, remembered as a defender and hero of the Empire.

Plastic Kits Reduce Costs
Published: 04/19/2009, Last Updated: 04/20/2009 02:18am
Games Workshop has a new approach to its packaging for Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40,000 plastic miniatures. This new method combines all variants for a particular figure into one box, reducing the number of purchases required for a player to acquire all the variants of that particular figure.

The Warhammer 40,000 Imperial Guard Sentinel (May, $22 MSRP) is an example of the new packaging protocol. “We’re trying to reduce the line so there’s more versatility in every box set,” said Games Workshop’s VP of Sales for Trade and Direct Chris Woodward. “You used to have to stock four to five different box sets. If you wanted to actually stock them so that you’d have a squadron of them, that would be 15 different box sets you’d have to stock for one entry in one book. What we’ve done with our new plastic technology…is now we can produce a Sentinel that’s [all in] one box, has even more versatility than the old ones, because now we can have six different variants with all the different weapons and all the different options, all in one box.

“It allows somebody who’s really selling our product to stock one box, not five, which shrinks down that shelf space and overhead…What that does for the customer is they’re able to purchase one box, get all the bits they could ever want, build any type of Sentinel they currently want,” Woodward said. In addition to the Sentinel, several other WH40K box sets are also due to be released in May.

Coming in June will be three new plastic box sets of Empire models for Warhammer Fantasy Battles, also utilizing the new approach. “Empire’s going to be the first Fantasy army we have where you can build every single entry in the book in plastic,” said Woodward.

While on the one hand I am OVER THE MOON happy about the plastic boxed sets containing all the possible parts (like the Empire General/standard bearer and the Imperial Guard Sentinel), his statement is false.

There is no plastic mounted wizard. Or engineer, or priest. There is no plasti arch-lector.

I would love it if there was. I might even build an empire army for no other reason than to have an all-lastic army. That si AWESOME. Too bad you can't. All the armies are close. I think the biggest thing they all need is a plastic HQ a la the space marine commander. I realize IG just got theirs, but so many other armies (read: Orks) coudl really use one.

And for the love of GOD make the aspect warriors in plastic!

The new models are really nice, I can not wait to get my hands on them and get some paint on them.

And is anyone else excited about the Uniform & Insignia of the Empire book? I love stuff like this, and I am happy to hear that they are going to release one for every army, def something that I will pick up and put on my shelf.
