I am curious how do people do the pluralization of Codex?

is it codexi, codexes, codecies, ??

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

Codexes is the most correct form (as it follows the pluralisation rules of the English language).

Codices is also an acceptable form (as it is the latin pluralisation of a word taken from Latin).

There are a million and one different plurals that people use...

I personally use Codexes. It's not correct latin, but it's what GW use. I vaguely recall a statement from one of the devs a while back to the effect that they consider the plural to be 'codexes' and that it's not supposed to be perfect latin...

40K terminology often mimics, but isn't precisely latin.

I use codices.

Using codexes sounds wrong to me, but I also use vertices, appendices and carnifices, as I was teached.

I find only one correct plural of codex in the Merriam Webster dictionary: codices. Index, on the other hand, shows both indices and indexes as correct plural forms.

In the Oxford English dictionary codexes and codices are listed as acceptable forms for the plural.

Interestingly the spell checker in Firefox is highlighting indices and codexes for correction.

I tend to use Codices when I write it, but out of habit just say Codexes when saying it.

Codexi, Codexii, Codecii...all make me shudder as an ancient history geek.

Codices.

It's easy to tell because there isn't a little red line under my version when I quote it.

Build a fire for a man and he will be warm for a day; set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain.

Sly Marbo doesn't go to ground, the ground comes to him.

Codices is the correct plural. Doesn't matter what GW says, they didn't invent the word "codex".

Nonetheless, I usually say "codexes" in speech myself, out of habit.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I say Carnifats. Because they're fat.

I smell a Linux user. Boxen.

In my head, it's codecis, but codexes is usually what comes out of my mouth. Of course, sometimes I mix it up and say "bobcats" to really throw people off.

Just to be really really anal,
"Codex" is a third declesion latin noun, following the same endings as "Rex" the nominative/vocative singular of rex is "rex" and the plural is "reges", there fore if you want to be utterly correct then you should use

"Codeges"

N.B. I use Codices as "Codeges" sounds kind of wierd.
