A purely economical question: How happy would you be with minor conversion work to turn plastic rank and file into Captains and drummers and standard bearers? I ask because the command companies are really overpriced, and I think converting would be easy for standards and musicians especially. Captains might be harder, but a slightly different paintjob could help to single them out too.

Well considering they don't have models released for all of the options for every army, its perfectly reasonable to do the conversions. Even if the models do currently exist in the range, if you do a conversion and its clear that its a musician, banner, captain (different enough from normal rank and file), then it's totally fine. Even the least reasonable players out there can't say much.

#1. There is no WYSIWYG rule in WotR.
#2. The WotR rulebook has many examples of converted musicians and banner bearers, and even a how-to tutorial on making them in the hobby section.

I think you are covered. For a captain, stick them on top of a chunk of cork or slate.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Exxxxxxcellent!
I'm still glad I bought one command, because I like the banner bearer and especially the task master, but it makes me happy that I can convert the rest.
Cheers!
