Is there any reason (aside from modeling difficulty) not to choose a Chaos Prince? I am not seeing in the codex that I can't have more than one either.
It seems like he's only a very small point increase for a lot of benefits over the Sorcerer.
He's a MC which is both good and bad in some respects.
I am mainly asking because I am throwing together a Slannesh-only list, and want a Sorcerer in it, but it may be worth my while to go to the Prince.
2 WS 1 BS 2 S 1 T 1 W 1 A over the Sorcerer stats, as well as MC, Eternal Warrior, Fearless, only for 10 points more? Is there something I'm missing?

While the Chaos Lord and Sorcerer are far from weak, the DP is really undercosted for his options and statline.
Blame Gav Thorpe for sucking all the fun out of the codex.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Well the answer is that it depends. Since most people go for the lash its mostly between the sorcerer and the DP. If you think/know that your opponent will be fielding low to moderate amounts of AT weapons the prince (or two) is the better buy because it/they can just suck up the fire while laying the hurt down. If you know/think that there is going to be a lot of AT on the table take the sorcerer. The sorcerer with a moderate un-geared retinue is easier to hide in cover than the DP and will be able to soak up heavy weapons better.

I almost never shoot a DP except with anti-infantry fire, and I never shoot it unless I think I can down it in one turn of shooting. Bolters kill non-nurgle DPs really well, and the nurgly ones are quite susceptible to anti-tank firepower.
It really depends on whether or not you want another unit for your opponent to worry about. An IC in a squad will likely live longer, but the DP is a whole separate unit that can fight and kill things on its own, but is honestly not all that durable.

In smaller games (1500pts or less) Princes are going to be star players since there won't really be enough guns on the table to deal with a couple of them quickly. Once points escalate and the opposing player has more options for dealing with the Princes at his disposal it becomes a bit more difficult. I find my Princes tend to die or be sustantially wounded generally by turns 3-4 (playing Lash) unless I'm very careful and/or completely tabling my opponent. The Princes are also a very important part of my army which makes them especially high priority targets, though really they do the majority of their damage in the first few turns with setting up the Oblits to deal with the opposing lynchpins. I've been playing 2 Princes so far, but I'm planning on trying a Prince and a Sorceror at some point to see how that goes. I'll either run the Sorceror in a rhino with some Plague Marines or walking in the middle of a massive unit of Terminators. I suspect the 1 Prince/1Sorc combo will work a bit better throughout the game, but I can only speculate on that so far. I need to model up a Sorc and try it

I was running lash sorcerers in squads and found that instead of killing a demon prince they were killing a sorcerer and a squad. so I switched to princes

Well, in smaller games, like Caffran said, the DP is the much better choice.
However, in games at the 2000 pt level or higher, the enemy can eventually bring some heavy guns to bear that can easily kill the DP.

The Prince can really come into his own in many situations. There really are only a couple good DP configs, and only one good Sorcerer config though.
Lash Prince - Obviously, a DP with lash and wings. He's tough and boobly.
The other builds involve either MoN or MoT and Warptime, and if Tzeentch, then add Wind of Chaos for extra awesome. It's debateable if 4+ Inv or T6 is better for staying alive.
For sorcerers, you are pretty much only good taking the lash sorc, or Fzorgleorcerer. The only problem here is that the sorc is not fearless, T4, and has to cast Lash at the same target that his unit is shooting at, per shooting rules. Aside from that, he can hide in a rhino and lash out the fire points.

I been playing with lists that do not use DP. I found that the outcomes are not much different. The Force Weapon is great for killing Marine HQs. I have seen a lot of armies of late running 1 DP and 1 Sorc because of how easy it is for the DP to get singled out. Usually they Deep Strike the DP and Lash and Sorc run around Lashing.

Well, Sorcerers can be instantly killed and they are not killing machines like a DP.
Stay away from them in smaller games.
